In addition to the above 2 posts Google up these 5 free, open source editing programs. At least one of these was used to make a Hollywood movie before it went open source. Some others work quite a bit like Movie Maker so the learning curve might be less.
Avidemux, Lightworks, Kdenlive, Openshot, and Cinelerra.
OOOPS! It looks good and probably works good but I find that Cinelerra is only for Linux based machines. Sorry.
