Mission: bombing an Airfield near Biggin Hill,
plane German BF-110s,
Escort German BF-109s,
Weather: Heavy Clouds over English Channel partly cloudy over target.

It was time for take off, my rear gunner is Joker in this flight It is only are second mission each in the BF-110 and are first flight together. He is young about 18 and to eager to fly in and shot down some Brits. I guess he never thought of it in the same why I do.

Well the plan is to fly in a tight formation over the channel so we do not lose each other are wingman is Jolly Roger Too and his gunner SNAFU (Hope you guys don’t mind me using your names, And putting you on the Germans side????) : ) these two are Veterans out here and know what they are doing how I got them for A wingy I do not know?????

As we Start to close in on the channel we can see the heavy clouds over it and we start to close up the formation we have about 50 planes all together so we need to be careful flying this close. (How do the Brits do this time after time???)
Watching all the gages to see that we are fling straight and not move side to side is hard but it looks like we all should be fine, I hope!!!!

As I start to come out of the clouds I see that there is something wrong terribly wrong! I look to my left and see Jolly Roger I look to my Right and see no one, some how we lost the rest of the team, the Escort and all. I give Jolly Roger a look of panic he looks back, and I know what he is thinking keep going we will bomb the first target we see. We fly about five more minutes and he see an air field looks like we are on the right target but at that time I see something too………..

Hurricanes dead head and low about 12 in all, I give the call to attack and we both go in full throttle I check my six and see more planes heading in about 20 or so, the panic comes back, should we stay and fight or run for home?????????? Wait these planes coming up are Germans ohhhhh yeaaahhhhhh now lets see what the Brits want to do. We know that the 109s can only stay for about 5 min or so after getting lost in the clouds but that should be enough time to hit the airfield and head for home. So I start my run after the Airfield.

All of a sudden Jolly Roger makes a call out to me he has been hit and needs help I check the skies and he is about 30 yards form me and smoking bad, he has three Hurricanes on his tail. I drop my bomb and start towards him.

I give him the call to head for home, as he makes his turn out I engage one of the Hurks on his tail the other two break to avoid being hit and I stay one the leaders tail the same one that hit JRT this guy is going down. I see JRT and the 109s heading out. Now I’m buy my self with about 7 Brits still out here.

I climb in to firing range of the hurricane and pull the trigger It is a hit and he is smoking I fire again and I see his engine start on fire he is finish. I check my six and see it is clear but on turning my head I see the Airfield and on it I see more planes taking off. Some tracer fire shots pass my plane and more shots hit my plane.
I think now is a good time to run.
