I was unaware of such a ballad, as per usual Jolly Roger Too, you have created an excellent, emotive story that tugs at the very heart strings. Civilians would have undoubtedly witnessed similar events, reminds me of the clip from the 1969 BoB film where the pilot safely parachutes down only to be met by the farmer and his pitchfork!
