Thanks! And that pesky goose was just a few feet away eh? I remember about 25 years ago we scoured the beach for a reported Ring-billed Gull without success - until we noticed it just 10 yards away in a rock pool with a few of the more common species. We were glad we hadn't asked any other birders for guidance.
Good luck with the Snowy Owl. I saw one in a ploughed Norfolk field about seventeen years ago. It looked quite beautiful and surreal standing there against the darker background. Hoping for Green-winged Teal tomorrow which eluded us last week...
