They must have been a hardy lot to have endured the discomfort afforded by the exposed nature of these earlier locomotives. Working tender-first was even more unpopular although some locos had a drop-sheet which was kept rolled up on top of the cab. I wonder how long it took the railway companys to install that small concession to the elements?

Plenty of cab detail here for the precision scale modeller. Note the ever-present billy-cans above the firebox door, always on hand for that cheering brew of tea! This loco is also working at Chesterfield Roundhouse this weekend at the 2008 Rail Power Exhibition.
