That Jutland business is generally considered to have been a draw but in fact can be seen as a victory for the RN because the losses, although about equal, affected the Germans more to the extent that they never fancied a return match. I wonder if Jutland was in the mind of Captain Hans Langsdorff when he decided to scuttle the Graf Spee in Montevideo?
