Dear St. Tom is a Bucket. We were taught Thomas a Becket despite the best a 17th century revisionist could do when John Strype, wishing to take a provocative posture in order to draw attention to his self-proclaimed 'learned' status began a trend when he decided it was only right to drop the 'a'. It has not really taken a grip until comparatively recently when, all of a sudden, it has become fashionable to drop the 'a' mainly because of his guesswork. Mind you - we live in an age of revisionists. It has become something of a trade which partly makes up for a lack of imagination in other fields.
I wonder how many other archaic revisionists are slumbering? Awaiting the clarion call from their modern brothers and sisters.
'Find your enemy and shoot him down - everything else is unimportant.'
