Gentlemen,

JRT,

I see that the Jamestown celebrations continue with a visit by the Bush entourage. 'Every American should stand here once' proclaims one website. I think every English man and woman should too. I also think that it is a shocking reflection on those responsible that we were taught so little about the early settlers which left Britain for the New World in 1607. I suspect that nowadays our kids are taught much less.

By all accounts it was not all beer and skittles for those early arrivals, with a high mortality rate due not only to natural causes but also to the Indians and certain diseases as well. I will attempt to broaden my sparse knowledge on the subject and perhaps even raise a glass to King James I...or would that not be appropriate? Any excuse to drain a wee dram. ;\)
