Dear Pals,

Also JRT and C51,

Those bins used to be the British birdwatcher's bargain and were very popular. They are the Carl Zeiss Jena 10x50, an East German company which collapsed with the Berlin Wall. They were very good for the price, £45-70 depending on where you did your shopping, whereas the West German counterpart cost about £250. Five times as much but not 5 times as good. My brother's are still in very good condition - complete with a quality case and will no doubt be a collectors item eventually. Those prices I have quoted were 20 years ago. Those particular bins once viewed the Black and White Warbler in Devon.

I tink I have made a prety good job of typing thid considring that I have just sern of half a botle of Laird's Kiltwash duble malt wiskey.
