Or "stretch out the torture". I took that to mean something like the English phrase "Keep us in suspense" usually followed by something like, "you ruddy sadistic git".

Look, my friend, I consider myself lucky if my Brit and American friends with whom I claim a common language understand what I write. It is therefore not a "given" but a miracle if you can. And always a real tribute to your considerable linguistic ability.
