I have written down your advice Old Dux, it makes damn good sense to me. I don't suppose the world would fall apart if my place of employ had to do without me a bit sooner. Yes JRT, I heard that, my retirement might actually be doing evrybody a big favour. Of course I would have more time for birding, and for hanging about the HWH thread, both excellent uses of time which contribute marvellously to the world at large.
