JRT, I did not want to blame you in any way. Also, for lots of reasons, you have not hurt any "national pride" I should have. I wrote my post in a bit of a hurry and it came out quite rambling, but I did not take the time to rewrite it. I will write more tomorrow, as it is late and I do not want to write something in a hurry again. Rest assured that you have nothing to feel bad about.
You have not struck a raw nerve in the sense of that it hurts easily when hit, but a spot I think about sometimes and am interested in.

Put in a (simplifying) nutshell, my thinking is not "Shooting the other side is good and shooting yours is bad, so will this german pilot in your story be good or bad", it is more "What is good character"?
