Once again I missed the big air show at Seymour Johnson AFB this year. The Thunderbirds were performing and there was much to see on display. As usual on the day before the event that lovely P51-D Mustang flew over our little grove of trees. As soon as I heard that lovely growl of that distinctive super-charged engine I was out the door and into the back garden with the big 10x50 field glasses glued to my bloodshots.
Just as in the past couple of years she was flying low and slow. It gave me a feeling of great good fortune to have seen her. A feeling of joy that I had not experienced since that lucky time I saw Olga entering the men's latrine area only minutes after I had left.
