It must have been a surreal existence for aircrews. Going out daily to do battle in the 'central blue', to kill or be killed, then return if you were lucky to an almost domestic setting with all the comforts of home. Quite different from the 'poor bloody infantry' of the Great War.
'Find your enemy and shoot him down - everything else is unimportant.'
