So I'm feeling at a loss of what to do in the mid-game. I've put a claim in on the Portugese throne thinking I may be able to take them diplomatically, but other than that I'm just colonizing and keeping an eye on the neighbors. The decisions/missions are kinda weak right now, nothing to really pursue.

I'd like to do something with France, we were allies until recently now I'm -200 to them (I think the reformation did that). Here's a few screenies. What do you guys do in the mid-game?

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.
This is known as "bad luck.”
