Pretty absurd especially when you consider that only a segment of the Brazilian population is black.
not quite true....unless you mean "pure black", most of brazilian is mixed,we call them pardos (there are 3 other miscenation but the census dont use them oficialy), in fact it was the left that changed that understanding for the census, so a person who is mixed of white and indian is also pardo,but...as always the left changed the pardo definition to be included into blacks, so they can go on their tirade of police violence against black population or how the blacks are also the poorest demographic, i mean.....sure when you put basically half the population of brazil into that etnicity.....
WT the only place where the population is predominantly black is bahia because of slavery. everywhere else the portuguese had their fun with locals and slaves, and our aceptance to imigrants turned it all into a blend soup. the south is where is a bit more homogenic white because of germans settlers and because for decades it was hard to even reach the south, brazil may not have any mountains but we make up for it with LOTS of serras and serrinhas (hills chains or ridges), even sao paulo to rio de janeiro was only connected by land in the 70s, before you had to go around minas gerais or take a plane..
