I'm thinking of picking up stakes and moving to a new home. What I want especially are a high number of superpower-aligned factions, either Orbis or Ocellus station and fairly close to the star. When I first moved to UGP 145 it had all of these things, plus great mining and other stuff like mat trader and combat instances. But now most factions are independent so maybe it's time to move. If anyone happens to notice a system like this please post it up.

I did another Surface Conflict Zone last night. It wasn't pretty. My side did win and I got a bunch of Combat Bonds, but I died quite often, and at the end ran out of air when I ran out of suit batteries and no matter how hard I looked where the Lightning Bolt symbols were, I could not find the charging port.

I am definitely over thinking this, but it occurred to me that:

- We get respawns when critically injured and re-enter the fray. This is similar to SLF pilots, and is supposedly due to "TELEPRESENCE" which also allows you pick up your Fighter Crew Member ANYWHERE.
- If Surface conflicts are via Telepresence, why go through the whole DropShip Mechanic and drop into the actual battlespace (or even need air in your suit????)

I've been doing some of these as well. I wanted to hit Gunslinger, which sounds cool.

I did have a weird thing happen. I flew to a war system and enlisted as usual. Used the dropship and started fighting and when I was killed it went to the redeploy screen, instead of respawning in dropship, and I was back at the station in my ship. I enlisted again for the same conflict zone, took the dropship and when I landed I noticed there was no score shown, I could not capture capture points, and had none of the radio comms. I was able to get bonds, but otherwise it was as if I was not signed up for it. Did some more later and it went fine.

So where's Wingnuts these days? Inara says he hasn't logged in to Elite in months, yet when I am playing I often see the notification that he has come online. In the social part of the main menu it says he is in Elite Discovery or something like that. Like a ghost, he is.

Ran a few more high intensity conflict zones of the ground variety and hit Gunslinger. My best haul from these so far has been 8.5m which isn't bad. But only high intensity pay well. The enemies are also quite a bit tougher too. I desperately need a better laser rifle.

He's around. We flew some runs in the CG together. I think it says ED:BEYOND because often we fly in the HORIZONS vs. Odyssey.

LOL... I can barely get through a LOW INTENSITY zone. I definitely need better weapons, but I am not going to grind for mats. Just have to hope to stumble on them at a Pioneer shop.

Yeah, Beyond, not Discovery is indeed what it says. I hope he pops in here at some point.

I've gotten the hang of the conflict zones I'd say. I have better gear now, and even played one high yesterday and didn't die once. Sometimes I die five times. Most of the gear I am using is grade 3 and some grade 2, which helps I am sure.

These were all bought by scouring different concourses around the galaxy. I also don't want to grind mats. You just gotta hit a lot of concourses, the more backwater the better.

Wingy’s Inara auto update is prolly borked. Mine periodically stops and I have to manually import data. That’d be my guess as why Inara thinks he hasn’t been online in months.

Another milestone reached, crossing 250,000 light years traveled.

Didn't log on for a couple days, then went and completed the CGs. Spent a little time flying to orbital outpost backwaters looking for good surface combat gear and struck out. Then I took the DBX back out for some more exo work. Again flew about 600 light years out. Well, actually "down" and made a number of first footfalls and first-log biological scans. Just need six more to hit fifty samples and bump the badge up one notch. If they are all first-logs I'll get promoted in exo rank too.

Crossed 4 billion cash on hand and 5 billion asset value. Not much compared to the mountains of money most of you have, but these are the little goals I set for myself to propel me along

Goals ARE the key for engagement in ED. Sadly, I’m lacking any at the moment. Been thinking about actually goin on an explo trip….

I've been kicking that around myself. If only there were a way to teleport back to the bubble. Outbound, I am full of enthusiasm. Inbound, not so much

Heh.,... I had decided to explore what On Foot Odyssey has to offer by way of GOALS. I grabbed an easy Threat 1 mission to recover something from a crash site. Headed out in the SRV and easily nailed the defenders with the SRV Plasma repeaters. Finished the mission and took some additional loot.

Easy peasy. Then I tried it again, this time using my long range Plasma rifle, thinking I could snipe from distance. Well... it didn't turn out that way. Plasma bolts are SLOW. AND I forgot to put on my shield. Mission Failed Rescue Rangers inbound.

Then I went back to the SRV approach for the next mission. Of course I forgot to put pips to Weapons, and the easy kills from the first mission didn't materialize. Many direct hits, but the defender's shields held better than my SRV shields. FAILED again.

I think I am going back to Ship-based missions, though the Surface conflict zones were kind of fun..

I struggled in a few of those myself, but they were the first thing I did. I think now that I have better gear I could pull some of them off.

Good that you tried the Odyssey stuff, even if you didn't find it suited you so well in the end. Will you try the exobiology stuff Rec?

Depends how bored I get :-) Exobiology stuff feels like another grind I don't really want to start. I keep meaning to get one of those new Frameshift Drives, but I realized I don't have the materials to Engineer them so I don't lose any jump range..so that is enough grind for me.

Yeah, it's not very exciting, but it's cool to get a few first footfalls and the money's really good. But the mechanics are not all that compelling.
