As far as I'm aware, the next ver. of WOFF will require the Platinum Ed. level to be able to upgrade further. I'm sure that Pol/OBD will see your post eventually and offer more info. and details. At any rate, I recommend getting the Platinum Ed. when you can since it is an improvement in several areas over the already excellent Ultimate Ed. - the next version of WOFF will not be out until 2021, by the way, so if you are impatient - as many of us are - the Platinum Ed. is a fine choice. Happy flying, Von S

Things are not fully decided at this point. We will look into it nearer the end and post the information of course. The changes across everything in the sim are large so likely a full version but any upgrade options will be finalized and released nearer the time. Ok, thank you for the information, I suspected it was headed that route since so many new things, that is why I wanted to get an idea before I make my decision. I'll stay tuned for the future information....

We'll have to agree to disagree here Randomizer. I don't believe PE is a superfluous waste of money at all. There are some excellent upgrades in that edition, as there will be in the next. And if for no other reason, purchasing the new offerings as they are released helps to support a very small but dedicated dev team working on a shoestring budget to keep providing us with improvements to the best total front WWI combat flying sim out there.
Cheers,
Lou

I agree with Lou on all points. The difference between UE and PE are many and I am sure the next upgrade will be even better.

Let me join Hellshade and the Captain on this one. Wings Over Flanders Fields is a time machine. If you are fascinated by Great War aviation and want some idea of the experience of combat flying in this pioneering age, it is unsurpassed. The combination of dedicated development, pursuit of historical accuracy, and sheer artistic talent that the tiny team from OBD Software represents is unlikely to appear again, and even more unlikely to share our passion for this subject and this era. When I consider the hours of pleasure delivered by the purchase of Woff UE and PE, no other pastime offers so much for so little. As Hellshade points out, we must each make our own decision about what entertains us and what it's worth. For my part, I am happy to contribute to every future development of this sim.

Many excellent points here but Raine's resonates most profoundly for me. I've had OBD stuff since it was a free add-on but I never really understood until recently that WOFF truly is a time machine.
On the subject of value, I remember paying $1.50/hour to play Warbirds back in the day. I've said it before, and will again, quality costs money. To quantify WOFF, my current DID pilot has 315 hrs logged. Sure, some of that was time compressed but not that much. I'll guesstimate that's probably 225+ hours actual stick time. Well over $300 in late 1990s Warbirds money, and that's just in the last 8 months.
Where I used to live circa 2016, there was, amazingly, a mom and pop games store which against all odds had remained in business since the 1970s. On Thursday nights the Grognards would gather with their Napoleonic miniatures, percentile dice and and cloth tape measures. I used to buy stuff there that I might have had cheaper on the 'Zon because I knew if that place went under, there would never be another to take its place.
Each must make his own choice but we should recognize that a game like WOFF will almost certainly never come again. OBD are the last of the V-8 interceptors. Giving OBD my $ is like supporting that local games store. Keeping the magic alive.

All great points, and while I've already given my "two cents" on the topic early on in the thread - thought I would pop in with an extra cent worth of commentary (three cents?) - namely: If you are running AMD vid. cards, either on PC or Mac configurations, you will be well served with the upgrade from the UE to the PE ed. of WOFF. For the UE ed., while I had to keep terrain shadows off, and cloud shadows/density, also texture glossiness, set to about a value of 3 - to get rid of flickering - upgrading to PE solves those problems. Running terrain shadows now at a value of 2, cloud/shadow density and texture glossiness at 6 - and not a single flicker but smooth sailing (I mean flying). (Further note: For those running WOFF on the Bootcamp side of your Macs - with AMD cards - also check the ver. of drivers you are using (I'm currently on ver. 17.x.x and doing fine, with ver. 1809 of Win10 and locked down). You may have to experiment with different ver. drivers for the AMD cards if running different setups and/or vers. of Win10. At any rate, I recommend avoiding those unofficial/"beefed up" variants of drivers for AMD if getting smooth flying in WOFF on standard drivers.) Happy flying, Von S

Hi Adger, good to see you again. It certainly has been a year not like any other that's for sure.
Clearly the guys involved in making this new edition of WOFF, whenever it eventually appears, will have put a hell of a lot of time and effort into it and will deserve to have that recompensed. It may well be that the new edition is an 'add on' to Platinum addition owners and pretty much a whole new game for those using Ultimate edition. This may well reflect in the pricing.
Just my take on it which seems to make sense.
"A great deal of an aeroplane could be holed without affecting its ability to fly. Wings and fuselage could be—and often were—pierced in 50 places, missing the occupants by inches (blissfully unaware of how close it had come until they returned to base). Then the sailmaker would carefully cover each hole with a square inch of Irish linen frayed at the edges and with a brushful of dope make our aircraft 'serviceable' again within an hour."

Hi Albert, yeah its been a while pal, hopefully soon I can jump back into my favourite sim. I’ve actually been paying my brothers mortgage until he gets back properly on his feet so the hrs I’m putting in are leaving me very little time to fire the old girl up...what a horrible year for many mate. 2 versions would probably be the best scenario for most people but I agree with you entirely regarding how much work POL and WM along with the testers have/are putting into the new “update”. I have every faith that OBD will try their best to please everyone and il carry on supporting them as best I can. OT but il also support CD Project Red on the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 ..il have no time to play atm but any company that gives me a drm free option in this day and age gets my support (they also make great titles imo). Im certainly looking forwards to what magic Pol and Wm can still produce from the game engine, even though il have little time to fly I still at least once a week pop over here to read the excellent reports from Lou, Carrick Raine Fullofit ..epower amongst others. Brilliant stuff guys. Anyway I’m doing a couple of hrs overtime so I’m shooting off, take care and hopefully soon il see you in the skies
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.

Wow mate well you're certainly putting more than your shift in that's for sure and clearly a good cause if it's helping your brother out. Crazy times but it's heartwarming to see people doing stuff like you're doing. So good on you. Just remember to give yourself a break sometimes too pal.
Yes, I can't wait for the new edition to make an appearance. The snippets that have been released so far look great and if they can sort the few loose ends out in the career area, such as the medals, and also add some more early war two seaters into the mix, they'll make an already great game totally unique in my opinion.
To have a game focussed on the offline single player in this day and age is virtually unheard of, so it's just sorting out those few little errors to complete the immersion.
I really can't wait, and clearly you mate, deserve many hours of prime time with it when it does come out.
