Yeah Shogun 2's a good one. What stands out for me with this title is how nicely they captured the period feel in the UI, music and presentation. CA has always done a nice job with this, and I really liked how it was done in Shogun2. It was also great because it covers that time spanning steel and gunpowder, giving Shogun 2 an appealing asymmetry to the combat. I liked the tech trees and the naval support too. The campaign plays well for the most part, but Shogun2 is one of the worst in the series for agent spam. It also has the horrible Realm Divide mechanic. OK, maybe some like it and it's just me, but I did not like how it was implemented in the game. And the trade node mechanic at sea was bad too. It's a good game, as most TW games are. They've released 14 main titles, of which I own 8. I rank Shogun 2 fifth of that bunch

, but Shogun2 is one of the worst in the series for agent spam. Agreed. The agents were much too overpowered. A high level metsuke could bribe most of an enemy army if you had the funds for it and high level ninjas could assassinate enemy daimyos almost at will. It also didn't help that you could stack up the 3 agents into one army. At least in Rome 2 the agents were dialed back a bit and you can only stack one agent per army. In TW: Britannia and Three Kingdoms they got rid of agents entirely!

Yeah PM, and Rome 2 was next and didn't they add agent limits from that point on?
If anyone goes for this deal I'd highly recommend shelling out extra for the Fall of the Samurai add-on, which makes it a better game in my view. It expands the scope of the game, adding monitors, gatling guns, and railroads and other things representing the onset of the industrial age.

. Yes, the agent limit was based on your current "imperium" level, the maximum of which is 5 agents per class.

Just seen this... I was waiting for a sale, but FREE?... Can't believe my luck, grabbing it now! For another $7.50 US you can also pick up Fall of the Samurai. DBond has already described it quite well and it's really worth the small amount when you are already getting the earlier period game for free. It's both similar and at the same time quite unlike the experience in Shogun due to the clash of the old and new technologies on the same battlefield. Cheers

Cheers I fully concur and this made the DLC a lot of fun to play. The naval combat with the ironclads and wooden ships was also very well implemented.

FALL of the Samurai is $7.49
RISE of the Samurai is $2.49
FotS, according to Steam.....
Notice: DOES NOT require the base game Total War: SHOGUN 2 in order to play.
I remembered it as DLC, but it's standalone.

I remembered it as DLC, but it's standalone. I completely forgot about Rise of the Samurai, which takes place like 400 years before Shogun II. I have it, but I probably haven't played it in years. I guess I ought to fire it up for something different. Cheers

That one is my least favorite of the three main campaigns mostly due to the fact that there really aren't any significant differences between the different clans you can play as.

FotS is standalone. RotS is not. I never played Rise, but recommend Fall. Clear as mud eh?
