Sometimes a song from "that other genre" sounds really good. You know what I'm talking about - there are types of music that you usually don't like. Maybe it's rap, maybe it's country, or maybe it's metal. But every now and then a tune comes out and you just love it. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not "against" a certain genre just because I don't like most of the songs, but I think you can relate - it's just a matter of taste. Okay, so I am not into hip-hop, but I don't let that stop me from enjoying a hip-hop tune if it turns out to be an exception. Here is one from the 90s that I like. Do you have songs that cross over for you? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KL9mRus19o

The issue is not p*ssy. The issue is monkey.

There's actually quite a few songs from the "old school" rap that I like. We're talking 80's and early 90's here.

Rap today though I couldn't care less for.

Two of my all-time favorites (makes no sense on multiple levels, but there it is)...

I could come up with a half dozen more, from Tone Loc to...hell, I don't remember now. The cassette B-Side to "Baby Got Back" is a song called "Cake Boy", one I also enjoy.

Guess mainly I like some comedic Rap.

I dislike post-1985 or so Country almost as much as Rap/Hip-Hop, but this one's ok...

That song letterboy1 posted is something I could kind of groove to in a bar, although I'd likely never purchase it.

Can the Country Music of today even be considered "Country"? It's just so vastly different from what it was in previous decades. It basically sounds like Pop with a Southern drawl to my ears.

Tone Loc had a small part in “Heat” but he was really great with the couple of minutes of screen time he was given.

Alright, one more (that's not the Beastie Boys' "Fight For Your Right To Party" or Run-D.M.C.'s collaboration with Aerosmith on a Rap version of "Walk This Way" that I posted on the CH 80's thread).

I have a love/hate with this next one. My degenerate cousin thought my wedding reception music was boring (Chicago to Herbie Hancock) and talked the kid who was DJ'ing for me into playing it. I was both horrified and humoured... biggrin

I kinda have a fondness for it now. smile EDIT: Apparently fake video though (some kids paying homage).

And do we count Blondie's "Rapture"?

I have to admit, this oldie (one of the original Raps?) isn't so bad, although I much prefer the real Chic's "Good Times"...

I think I'm going to follow letterboy1's lead for now on and be more respectful to musical genres I'm not crazy about. Instead of using words like dislike, hate and detest, I'll just say it's not my preference.

Except for excessive vulgarity being played in public (especially with kids around), not cool at all.

Gonna add one more that's not Rap, don't know why but I've gotta strong liking for Rick James' "Street Songs". We've all heard "Super Freak" and "Give It to Me Baby", but how about this one?...

When I was a young man
Kind of free and fancy
Met this little cute girl
She said her name was Nancy
She had pigtails to her shoulders
She couldn't have been much older
She taught me what I had to know
To make a girl not want to go

Lol.

EDIT: Optional video (song only) if, like me, you're having trouble with above video...
