Maybe already discussed here but I 've watched it last night and wanted to share as it is IMHO a very good movie, the Russian mix between The Right Stuff and Apollo 13 with endearing characters...
"Anyone can shoot you down if you don't see him coming but it takes a wonderfully good Hun to bag a Camel if you're expecting him." Tom Cundall.
The Soviets were very lucky in their quest for space "firsts" for propaganda purposes, first space walk, first woman, first 3 man crew etc. were all big gambles. And they weren't really a part of a overarching plan for future advancement in their space program, it was just "do this to be first" for being firsts sake. The next Soviet EVA did not come for almost 4 years, and their third came 12 years after Leonovs first.
"In the vast library of socialist books, there’s not a single volume on how to create wealth, only how to take and “redistribute” it.” - David Horowitz
The risks taken by their spatial agency and by the cosmonauts (!!) the political pressure etc are well shown in the movie (the inhabitated flight preceeding their launch was a failure, they sent the men neverthless without fixing anything and when back, did not recover them until one day in harsh winter conditions ). The movie is very entertaining and absolutely not (much) cheesy with very well made special effects .

Here's another that looks well done. The video is dubbed in German it sounds like but it looks like the actors are speaking Russian. One reviewer says the English subtitles aren't very good but the movie looks great. Might try to pick these up some time.
Hopefully some day we'll get some more independent space movies done right that can bypass Hollywood altogether. Its scifi but I really enjoyed Apollo 18. Has a great look and feel to it.
