Welp... I just learned that if you get infected by Zika, you are in the risk group to suffer from Guillain-Barre Syndrome. The news comes as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced a new complication to the virus: Increasing cases of Guillain-Barre Syndrome, a rare paralyzing condition they think will be seen in about every 5,000-10,000 infections like Zika. Guillain-Barre is rare, but can be a complication to many different kinds of viral infections. Usually, it manifests as a temporary paralysis that can worsen if an individual's breathing muscles are affected. Most patients recover with proper care.

Yeah, I guess there are rabid dogs near Albuquerque too. But I really think the concern here, is a danger of having children born with microcephaly. And it's just been found in the Ziki mosquitoes in Miami, where Panzer lives. Like I said, be careful Panzer, you AND the family. It's not something you'd want to be carrying around. I guess rabies is also a problem, for anyone near Albuquerque too......

There's also a report that Zika also puts you at higher risk for Alzheimer's disease so nuke those bloodsuckers. Stay dry, shame the neighbors dirty water pools. Let's just say the areas of Miami with these incidents are not exactly the shining locations the tourists usually visit. The Jedi Master

LOL so close to racism this thread wants to be. Wow, from mosquitos to racism in about 6 posts. Quick.... run for a safe place.

I was going to ask if PM ever spends more than fifteen continuous minutes in a place that isn't air conditioned.
My experience with Miami is that in the places I went the mosquitoes are probably one-and-done for the evening, as they'd be too drunk to fly after the first sip.
The opinions of this poster are largely based on facts and portray a possible version of the actual events. More dumb stuff at http://www.darts-page.comFrom Laser: "The forum is the place where combat (real time) flight simulator fans come to play turn based strategy combat."

Damn, Murphy. This turned into a downer. I thought it was a review for another classic Sci-Fy original movie.... Yeah, well it was meant to inform PZ of a pending danger in his neighborhood....it was 'news' at the time of the post. But I guess now it's 'old news'....and your right, things seem to have been twisted a bit. Not my intention. It happens. I'm certain PZ, and other members in the Miami area, are well aware of the danger, and are/were taking proper precautions. THAT was the point of the thread. So...I guess, we're done here.

I wasn't trying to make light of your intentions, just trying to throw some humor into the subject. I guess it's a habit I picked up from being a firefighter. When things go bad, you try to make light of it to keep your sanity.
Honestly, this and other 'bugs' that are showing up in our country worry me a lot. We go through periods of wet weather where I live that breed clouds of mosquitoes. I work outside every day, so my wife (who is a born worrier anyway) worries about me getting something from a bite, not to mention ticks and Lime disease. Then, when you take into account that antibiotics are becoming increasingly useless, it gets pretty scary. I think most of us in the lower tier states think about this more frequently than we'd like to admit.

I think most of us in the lower tier states think about this more frequently than we'd like to admit. Wait a minute... A Texan referring to Texas as a 'lower tier state'...? That just ain't right! LOL Lower as in more southern. Certainly not in any other way!
