This is one song I'd place up against any current rock song. Released in 1975, 41 years ago! Still kicks ass and if were released today I think it would compete very well.
I present to you, Nazareth!
For additional points, I present a Nazareth love song...still awesome to hear 40 years later...

I've always felt that "I Feel Fine" by the Beatles sounded way ahead of its time. This song came out in 1964.
“Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.”
I hear this on classic rock stations so I'm gonna call it an oldie. (It's from 1996.) It sounds very ahead of its time. Let's just hope Yes doesn't sue them for the obvious lifting of the beginning of "Roundabout" at the very end!

Here is another one that if released now, would climb up the charts. I believe anyway... Along with 'Hair of the Dog' and 'My White bicycle' these were not in the period of which could really be appreciated or understood.
