I must admit that the best clam chowder I've had was in a little Irish pub in Boston.
Runner up goes to Ivar's on the Seattle waterfront, oddly enough.

iF you make to New England, I would like to suggest either of these for a fantastic bowl of chowder. New Hampshire, the Granite State, directly abuts Maine to the South. It only has about 18 miles of coast, but think of it as New England concentrate!: Newicks Peteys

Clam chowder is one of those things I like but never order, mainly because I'd rather have the clams themselves (whole bellies, put in a pot of water with cornmeal the night before), scallops (preferably sea), or shrimp. My sister-in-law always makes a seafood chowder to die for when we have holidays at their place - huge chunks of clams & scallops, and nice big pieces of haddock as well.

White. Manhattan Clam Chowder is red. I had to google clam chowder,I had no idea what it is. I was just quoting from one of my favourite movies Ace Ventura.I though that Panzer would have weighed in on that one

Clam chowder is a precious commodity only done correctly here in Maine as is the case with anything made with lobster, crab, scallops, shrimp or haddock.

Yeah, I remember passing the Snow's clam chowder cannery in Pine Point as a kid, while on our way to Salty Bay seafood restaurant, and just can't see myself buying it any more ever since they closed that facility and now can it in NJ.

I never had red clam chowder before.
Every clam chowder I'd ever had was white. Back when store-bought soup meant Campbell's, chowder meant Manhattan red, as that was the only kind they sold, for some reason. When I had my first cream based chowder, I couldn't imagine why they would have wanted to offer the other kind. Maybe it was trendy in the fifties.

I don't like clams or chowder, so it's irrelevant to me.
However, I can say that real Key Lime pie is much better than the imitators (which are instantly noticeable because they're green).
