(Here's mission 5 of a full-real SF2 NA campaign)

Today we're supposed to take out some bad guys rolling into Selfloss, typical CAS mission. If Selfloss falls then Reykjavík would be the next target.

Typical CAS loadout of rockets and cluster bombs.

Route skirts enemy territory, I will probably edge to the left on the run in. There are still 6 enemy ships in the task force, but Kiev is gone.

Our players for the day.

Sidewinders in the sky...

F-14 heading to the Marine Amphibious Group to provide air cover. The MAG is inching closer to it's eventual landing on Iceland.

The Hawkeye starts calling out missile launches, he's strayed to close the the enemy surface action group.

My TWI is clear.

The Hawkeye can't dodge SAMs forever and gets nailed.

I start to pick up faint tracks in my 5 o'clock. There are reports of some bandits in the general area.

We evade any bandits and get to the target area. I order the flight to engage ground, (hit "e" to randomly select a target) tell my wingman to attack, and start laying down the hurt on some AAA units...they typically are hanging back behind the main enemy force so aren't too hard to spot. They are also wearing tan camo which stands out against the dark ground.

The M-60s have done most of the work and have wiped out nearly all the enemy PT-76s.

The lone survivor of the enemy ground unit.

Taking out a ZSU-57.

Iceland's mountainous terrain is a severe problem for my squadron-mates. They seem to get lost in valleys and can't get out.

Successful counter, but another A-7 gone.

I bagged 2 targets, it looks like the M-60s took out all the enemy tanks single-handed. M-60 vs PT-76 is no contest apparently.

Some rockets fired, but it was my CBUs that did the damage by taking out the AAA. The ZSU-57 is a poor platform against small attack aircraft. No mobile SAMs or MANPADs accompanying the ground forces which is somewhat surprising.

//(maybe the targets file needs some tweaking, the AAA and SAM threat over land is extremely weak)

Looks like Russ bought the farm via CFIT, I'm back to killing my wingmen again. We're losing an average of one aviator per mission, not sustainable.

As a Cold War and USN nut without SF Atlantic I really enjoy these Harry, thanks for the AARs.

You know, tomcat, that's pretty easily remedied but, yeah Harry, great AARs.

Nice AAR's, HarryM. I enjoy reading them at work. smile

I came back to the '79 campaign last week, and I'm flying the good 'ole Tomcat, having a right decent time. I love dogfighting those Floggers.

I wish I had time to do another AAR, but I barely have time to fly, much less write about it.

Keep it up!
