Hello Guys -

I have an XP system and would like to play an old favorite of mine - "Fighting Steel".

Here is my system's info:

Windows XP Home Edition Ver 2002, SP3
Intel(R) Core(TM2)CPU
6400@ 2.13GHZ
2.13GHZ 2.99GB of RAM
C: 69.2 GB
E: 465 GB

Can anyone help me get this old game to function properly? The top part of the screen flickers all the time and the mouse leaves a trail to pointers across the screen.

Thanks to all the answer!!

P.S. If there is a newer "Fighting Steel" game out - please let me know....

Hey Chips.

I used to run Fighting Steel on Win XP with no issues, although on much older hardware. If I had to do anything to get it to work, I've forgotten now.

Look up the "Fighting Steel Project" - it was kind of an unofficial update to FS, I don't recall if it dealt with any technical issues. It did update the mechanics of combat, and add a lot of new ships.

Certainly, if the old forums are still online, they'd be the first place I'd check for technical tips.

I was able to run FSP-modded Fighting Steel with a now-old Radeon HD3650, and even older Pentium 4 on 2.93GHz and 2GB of memory with some non-critical graphic glitches, and I was never able to get it to run w/o glitching out immediately on my newer laptop.

This game is really picky when it comes to newer graphic cards...Well, it would have been some orders of magnitudes more popular if not for that. There simply aren't enough game - that is not also an arcade like Battlestations - of that type out there.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I checked out the FS Project and it seems to have pretty good ideas for me to try. I still have my old Win 95 and 98 computers out in my shop. If I can't get my XP to run it, I will just reload the game on them and have a go.

I guess noone has done another game like this - WWII Naval, huh?
