Unlike Falstaff I don't know about colour cicles, and opposites, and matching, and adjacents... but I do live in the UK and I have flown over it a lot. CloD doesn't look close to how the UK looks I'm afraid, my only reference is experience and my own Mk 1 eyeball. There is plenty of detail in CloD but the field layout, lack of hedgerows, tree layout and forests look nothing like the UK.

If I look at a photo of the UK and think that looks close, but CloD doesn't then monitor calibration is absolutely nothing to do with it. In fact, if I look at an airial photo and it looks just like I see the UK and I then calibrate my monitor to get CloD looking better, the photo ends up wrong and so does everything else on my monitor.

Interestingly, the 'update' topic Luthier posted a few weeks ago showing the CloD team did show a shady figure working on the landscape, so whether or not this was a hint towards something is anyone's guess. I either think the current landscape is representative of an abbortive attempt at England/France, or it's just a placeholder...

Either way, it definitely needs work! I just hope that Luthier will detail their perspective on it at somepoint, rather than leaving it to the community to work on (or even work with the community on it).

I do wonder.... The landscape definately has a bit more of a southern european feel. Where were the aerial scenes in the Battle Of Britain movie filmed again? As i said i wonder if someone might have accidently been researching the wrong country? Smile2

So let us be happy that this is not a ubi-release but a release from a company with a long and outstanding support history.

And to be realistic, next wwii flight game will go to mass-business where the money is -> arcade, maybe with sim-parts.

So i hope that more people find out what is good in CoD, now and especially after the next patches, so that the devs get a good financial foundation for future patches and developements.

Typical hater... don't you know this was a standard anti bomber confusion technique used during the blitz. The people below would turn their lights on only when the bombers were directly overhead, this dazzled the bombardier's vision thus reducing his accuracy. CloD gets another detail right and the haters still hate.

In case you can't see it the above is entirely sarcastic. smile

Sarcasm off: The biggest question is why are the lights on in the first place, it is 1940 during the blitz FFS. I remember bringing this up when one of the very poor pre-release vids were released, showing a Spitfire flying over london at dawn/dusk with lights glaring in every window (at around 4 FPS). Oleg said there was a line in the config that allowed us to set the brightness of the lights, methink he was taking the P smile

I just recon we haven't got the switch for it yet, the lights do turn off after a certain time of day.

Yes, but it does beg the question, why do they come on at all?

It's down to your badly calibrated screen Furbs, on a properly sorted one the lights are on until early evening and turn off when it gets dark wink

In all seriousness, was there a specific time of day that the blackout came into effect or was it just a general 'no lights' at any time order?

In essence if it was dark enough to need a light then you had to cover your windows to prevent light escaping. The blackout came in to effect in the UK two days prior to the start of WWII. Before sunset each night all windows had to be covered up to prevent light esacping. Streetlights were dimmed and had special deflectors and cars had headlight covers with those little slits in them.

The best way for the devs to fix this bug is to remove the building textures with the lit windows entirely. A simple fix IMHO.

Actually, I can recall seeing posts showing that there is a line to edit in the conf.ini to remove the lights (or edit them in a similar way) so it may be true...

I still don;t think there is much differ3ence between this release and the release of il2. I remember having some issues then and watching other wine and moan abou t it. It turned into an epic game over the next couple year. I hope for the same here and don;t see why it will be different.

I think it's clear to see the Oleg influenced elements and the elements of the game made/developed after he left.
Although, having said that, some of the information I sent them did make it into the sim, (and this wasn't too long ago) so I do think he had an influence up until release. I just think his influence had diminished to almost nothing by that point.
Hopefully he'll come back, or become more active in the sims promotion, despite what some may say about him.

WoP does NOT use the old IL2 graphics engine.

Flight models in WOP are borrowed from Il-2 and not the graphics engine. The author of that review is clueless.

If a UK resident compares the Cliff of Dover game graphics with real pictures on the same monitor, wouldn't he or she notice that the real pictures look off as well if there were a calibration problem?

The issue is not p*ssy. The issue is monkey.

For £17.49 it's excellent and at least they almost spelled it right, I'd say it's a sleeper bubbling under for that investment. It says here.

I'm nearly at the endgame of Fallout New Vegas. When I finish it I'll never play it again apart from the addons. Oleg's Battle of Britain, I'll be flying it for years. Good return on the small investment given four quid for a pint of beer in some fleshpots if we're lucky
