After looking more at the nGlide glide wrapper site (thanks Shadow=ASP=) it appears that there are in fact custom builds of DOSBox that allow DOS 3DFX games to be played. As you may or may not be aware, DOSBox is an MS-DOS emulator but has never been able to play hardware-accelerated games.
Quoted from the
nGlide website:
"Does nGlide support DOS Glide games?
Yes, but not in native Windows environment. You must install DOSBox with Gulikoza's patch. You can choose one of three builds: CosmicDan's, Gulikoza's and Ykhwong's. After installation delete glide2x.dll file from DOSBox directory (if any) and set memsize=63 and fullscreen=true in dosbox.conf. Last step is to install nGlide. Now you run DOS Glide games from DOSBox console. Note that not all DOS Glide games are working yet with this solution."It seems that game compatibility is somewhat customized and limited, but if anyone would ever like to try LB Gold DOS with these - remember that I thought of it first!
Up until now, the only way to play LB Gold with the 3DFX patch on modern computers has been to play through the unstable Windows EXE that comes with the game. Even then, stability issues, display problems and incompatibilities have always been present. DOSBox from the start allows for a stable gaming platform for any DOS game, so the ability to hook-in Glide support is a good way to go. Given that even in Software mode LB1/Gold has always been rather low in framerate through DOSBox, I'm not quite sure if using basically, hardware-acceleration, would be viable. It would literally either make it or break it.
