So, what's it going to be, the traditional turkey with trimmings, or something innovative and different?

We're having a sort of downsized version of tradition, with Afrikaaner overtones. It'll be a big roasting chicken for us, as no one is particularly enamored of turkey 'round here, and because the last time we cooked a turkey it took 14 months for us to finish the leftovers.

Anyone else improvising? Turkey fajitas? Ham? A hotel cut rib roast? Pizza?

Cheers!

Rick... wink

Trying the deep-fried turkey route out here, but the big coup de grace will be the Spencer family secret recipe for grits casserole I'll be starting to prep up Thursday morning! Stand by for pictures.

Smoked Turkey from Stewarts meats in Yelm Washington.

Best place to get your turkey and their prime rib is fantastic. I'm picking up one of those for my coworkers (no not Doug and 20mm) for Christmas Eve when I work with them.

I had turkey and all the trimmings (up here that means potatoes, carrots, turnip and cabbage) for Thanksgiving on Oct.12 smile

If we waited for the date you guys use we would be risking shoveling our way to the dinner wink

It's just going to be us this year and my kids don't like turkey. So we are cooking a ham along with the normal Thanksgiving fixin's to go with it. I am almost regretting not making even a 10 pound turkey to go with it after seeing all the turkey commercials on TV.

I am absolutely making my favorite which is oyster stuffing. I live for oyster stuffing. It's better than sex.

Tofurky, aparently. The boyfriend won't eat meat (chicken not withstanding), so I gotta settle for this, but he swears its good. But at least I get green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and gravy.

Well Aladar, I'm going to be in Milpita in April for my cousin's birthday. I'll take you to In and Out Burger as a consolation prize.

The traditional turkey and the sweet potatoes, string bean casserole, corn, stuffing, mashed etc. side dishes.

I don't care for turkey since I find it as dry as cardboard other than the dark meat which luckily no one really cares for but me.

I get to take the twenty pound beast out of the fridge and put it in the roasting pan plus any type of necessary moves while it is being cooked. My wife is no match for the bird since she weighs in at about 100 pounds on fight day.

I lost the job of doing the carving when we first got married when we were having a total of four for dinner and I whacked it up into four equal pieces to save time and constantly getting up to carve more.

After eating it's TV football time until the half when weather permitting we usually get up, go outside and toss a nerf football around with the young 'uns until it's time to let common sense prevail and we go back to the table for some dessert of all sorts of more filling stuff.

It's a nice day with our sons, their spouses and grandkids and a few friends and neighbors dropping by for a bit of cheer and a practice tune up for Christmas.

Traditional here. Though my mother-in-law has a few things like Salsa Rice that add some extra spice to the meal. My father-in-law always deep fries a turkey... mmmmm good.

Peanut oil for the deep fried turkey? I had that once at my uncle's and I've never had better!

Anyway, my mother and I are going to Ryan's Steakhouse where they will have a giant Thanksgiving buffet. My dad will be on the road (trucker) so my mom will not bother with the extra work of cooking.

Aw, the three F's (Feast.Family.Football), I can't wait!

Traditional turkey & dressing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, and smother all that with gravey..... My wife also makes some English pop-overs and Yorkshire pudding.

...if I still smoked, I'd have to go out for a cigarette about now smile

btw, my brother-in-law (from Arkansas) made a fried turkey one Thanksgiving. Before frying, he injects the bird with a creole sauce that he makes. To die for!

Nothing resembling Thanksgiving, that's for sure.

Can't afford travel OR any of that type of food this week.
