Now that we have "The Mount of Aces," here's what it's like to fly the real ones (well, one a reproduction and the only real SE5a still flying in the Shuttleworth Collection):

I hope to get to an air show at Shuttleworth in September (and another at Duxford).

Enjoy!

Wonderful reads. I love the in-flight photos from the first one, with the pilot's scarf whipping back.

Actually does anybody know how many original WW1 aircraft are still complete and flying now?

Or are they all parked up in museums!!

Lots in the Shuttleworth collection, and old Rhinbeck, Plus the Kiwi stuff as well from Vintage Aviator and the Wanaka airshow.
They are a mix of replicas and originals, many of which fly.

Just read that There are no known original DR.1 Fokker triplanes in existence.

Lots of interesting info thanks Stuntie smile

Sadly no.
And whilst we have some originals preserved, such as the Fokker E type in the London Science museum, the captured DR.1 and DVII etc. were not saved.

Sadly Allied Bombing destroyed some German Museum ones, such as one in Dresden, and another place that I can't recall right now.
One of which was I believe one of Ricthofens DR.1's.

Cheers
Stuntie.
