This is how I spent my 4th of July...by waking up at 0530, driving 4 hours to the Cape, and then waiting for the launch, hoping it wouldn't be scrubbed for the third time (I was at the previous two tries on the 1st and 2nd as well). But the experience when Discovery took off was incredible; the most awesome thing I have ever seen in my life. Here are some pics I took. If they look like they were taken in a hurry, they were. When it clears that tower, it starts hauling. Hope y'all enjoy them!
This is a pic of 39B taken through my telescope the ghetto way...holding the camera up to the eyepiece and taking a picture.
Man, don't I wish I had a DSLR to take those pics. There were some dudes out there with serious cameras and lenses...pretty cool to see.
The one thing that I realized pictures can never capture (excluding the awesome sound) is how bright those SRB flames are...it's almost on the verge of hurting your eyes if you look at it for too long.
Nice photos though and it would be cool to be there to see in person. I heard (pardon the pun) that the sound is so loud that if you were standing next to it you would be turned to jelly?
