Hands down, my favorite book of all time. OF ALL TIME! This is the one and only book I read so many times that the book literally fell apart in my hands and I had to buy a new one. I've done this 3 times to this book!

Can't say the "sequel/prequel/at-the-same-time-quel" books have the same pull on me, though. I really liked Speaker for the Dead, but it got goofy at the end. Children of the Mind was just weird. The Shadow/Hegemon books also seemed "forced", and didn't resonate with me like Ender's Game.

I've heard and seen this mentioned many times, guess I'll have to take the plunge and read it, hey?

edit: Just bought it on Amazon-your recommendation and the reviews over there convinced me. Thanks.

My nephew read that book and loved it. He keeps trying to get me to read it.

Maybe this winter.

I read it sometime in the early 90s. I thought it was pretty good. Maybe if I get some free time I will go back and check it out again.

Great book! The only sequel I've read is Speaker for the Dead, such a different story. Need to read the other sequels.

That was one when I read as a teenager had me going wha wha what? At the ending lol.

I've got a bad feeling about this.....

In addition to Ender's Game I've read Xenocide, Speaker for the Dead, and Ender's Shadow. I seem to remember another book in there but the name escapes me now.

Another good Orson Scott Card book is "The Worthing Saga."

To those who haven't read it, do, asap. I read it at the request of my brother, and am glad I did. Probably one of if not my favorite book of all times. I wasn't into sci-fi books, but this one changed my mind on the subject. I need to read it again.

@NH2112

Shadow of the Hegemon, Children of The Mind...

The Worthing Saga is a great book, indeed! It's actually a collection of short stories Orson wrote over his career that have been woven into one consistent thread. I remember it took me a while to warm up to it, but once I read through it I was eager to read it again and again as well.

Just wanted to report back in; Ender's Game is EXCELLENT! About 60% through it, really a good book.

So much more than "just" a sci-fi book.

Recommended.

Thanks for the reminder. Read Ender's Game ages ago so now will be a good time for me to revisit this excellent novel. Will get it for my Kindle next month.

There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the universe is for it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more inexplicable.
There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

Your not the only two.

Ender's Game was part of the Warfighting course for career officers at the US Marine Corps University in Quantico, VA for several years. Dont know if they still give it notice these days.

Despite the good stuff in Ender's Game, readers will find the Foundation trilogy and Hyperion/Fall of Hyperion (Dan Simmons) even better. Particularly Second Foundation comes to mind as the classic above all classics in sci-fi.

Same here. I got through the first sequel but couldn't tell you what it was about now. Gave up on the others.

I liked Ender's Shadow as much as Ender's Game. I quite liked Bean and how his perspective adds a second layer to Ender's Game but fits logically with the events set out in the first book.
I also read Speaker for the Dead, which is more philosophical in nature, and enjoyed it as well. Not as much as the other two. I wouldn't say it was a chore to read, but it certainly didn't grab me the same way.

Several of the sequels get into political philosophy...but definitely read the one from bean's point of view...terrific read!
