Received another challenge yesterday while flying my trusty N28. The challenger was flying a DXII and I won the duel with hardly a shot fired. As we passed during the initial head-on I gave about a halfsecond squirt on the trigger to keep him honest even though I figured I was just making noise. We got into the typical merry-go-round and I was keeping the ol' 28 right on the edge of controlled flight. I was starting to gain a slight advantage over the Pfalz when all of a sudden he rolls inverted and goes into the ground. Don't know if I wounded him during the initial head-on pass or he just couldn't keep up with my old bird. I'll ask again-has ANYONE been challenged by an Ace? ROF guys-what happens in the game to generate the challenge as it's happened about 5 or 6 times now. Come on, someone else has to have some experience with this or knows something about it!!!!

Yeah, I fly with everything set to "real" except for the first 3 icon options in the upper left column (don't see quite as good as I used to! ) and that's it. I know for a fact that the level of "difficulty" has a huge impact on the point (or whatever the heck you want to call it) system in the game.

Did the mission start off with "an Ace has challenged you" or "You have been challenged by an Ace" or something to that effect?
Thanks for the info-you're the only person who's responded to my question of having been challenged.

I'm challenged enough just keeping my damn plane int he air. Let alone hitting anything with my machine guns (Although i did take down a bomber by crashing into it...)

Copter mate, me friend.....You are probably the only one that has played the ROF stock (at present) diabolically poor 'Campaign' to such an extent that you have been challenged by an 'Ace'. Its not inevitable. It can be avoided. By avoiding the current campaign. I know you Huey Drivers are THICK, but C'mon, Man..... Want to see me medals? I'll show you mine if you show me yours. Bahahahaha. If you want to be challenged by an 'Ace', then go online. You was in the Nam, Maaan. Not bothered about yer eyesight, you already have maximum respect in my book. That is meant sincerely mate, you know its true . Happy Hendrix Christmas, in advance. *We got Zips in the Wire, bring it all down on my head. I repeat. On my head.* [/b]

Biggster, I didn't know you guys did Tequila in the "homeland"! Remember, if you're smoking, shooting or snorting it-you're wrong! I'll have to break down and find out what I have to do to join the online world-wonder what the delay is like when I'm in the Colonies? Never done the on-line thing but I think it's time-point me to the best place to go to get up to speed. It is starting to get pretty old-just checked the stats and it's pretty stupid with 855 victories against 6 losses. Why don't ya pm me and let me know the easist and best way to get started!

CD, I don't think very many people play the Campaigns. Built around two of the worst planes in the set. I usually play Pat Wilson's excellent third party campaigns. Yes, it includes aces. It's the only thing I play with icons on because the campaign generator depends on the player to record scores and what happened to wingmen. Anyway, I killed Josef Jacobs a couple of days ago. I was leading a flight of SE5as and he and his unit were in Albatros DVas. Of course, the real Josef Jacobs, who had 48 kills, lived until 1978. Does that count? HT

That's excellent!
If I said campaign, I misspoke as I should have said the "Career" mode. I've spent most of my time in the career mode flying the SE-5, N28, Alb D3 and D5, Pfalz DXII and DIII. Enjoy the DH2 although I'm waiting till they fix the career mode goodies so I don't have to keep fighting off Fokker D VII's in my trusty DH! Tried the Spad-didn't like it-can't see anything and flys like a brick!
Cool thing is I own all of the planes so I still have a BUNCH of planes to learn and enjoy.

Copter, what kinda time frame have you had for these ace challenges? I'm 40 odd missions thru a 56 squadron SE5a career with 100 kills and haven't heard a peep from my erstwhile opponents!

Sorry for the late reply-gone for the weekend.
Just checked my stats on my current SE-5 career and I'm at 47 missions with 189 kills, 1 balloon and 12 trucks. Can't say if I've been challenged during this campaign-they're starting to run together a bit!
I have been challenged while flying the Pfalz XII, NE28, SE-5 and the D V for sure but my "score" varied quite a bit between aircraft and "challenges". I seem to remember having around 60 kills as the lowest score to be challenged. It also seems that I had just accomplished missions "above and beyond" like accomplishing both the primary and secondary tasks.
If memory serves, it seems that I'd managed to score between 6 and 8 kills prior to being challenged. 8 kills isn't a guarantee of a challenge-managed it a few times and nothing happened other than awards/promotions.
