Well it would be out if the link worked
You would have thought with all the criticism that CFS3 has been getting they would have been extra careful about not ballsing this up too !
Wonder how long before they fix it ?

Yep, in their defence they fixed it quickly, downloading now. Slammer_MS even posted a note at Netwings saying sorry for the initial busted link. Maybe they are listening after all. Now if only they could be as responsive about a patch !

Can't wait for the terrain editor to come out. Then somebody will hopefully make a terrain that looks like England and Northern France (and not like some warped version of Labrador)

Well looks like its finally time to learn Gmax, study the docs and example objects, and get some Zerstorers in the air.

Looks like the printer at work will get a workout tommorrow!

Hey! My 110 model is already finished! Why go to all the trouble to make another (most likely inferior) model?

vonManstein, as real as it gets!

PS. All kidding aside, I've actually taken the time to go through all the tutorials included with the 3D software, and I'm now capable of making models that look like real planes (well, not real planes, but atleast I've moved up from the "block-plane" phase).

If you go to http://www.discreet.com and the gmax download page, there's a new link to version 1.2. Must have become available within the last few days, as I checked not long ago. Maybe this was partly to blame for the delay in releasing the SDK? Not much point releasing something until the 3rd-party software it requires is out.

Anyway, I wish they'd make more game SDKs directly compatible with Lightwave - it's a hell of a lot easier to use than gMax or 3D Studio.

Why not make your stuff in the other programs and then export to 3DS format? It should require minimal tweaking in gMax (gMax 1.1+ has built in 3DS import) before exporting providing you follow all the naming/linking conventions contained in the SDK.

Have fun
Finn

Hi Finn.

I think Lightwave's 3DS output is less than brilliant, which means when you try to export it you end up making more work for yourself (cleaning up etc) than making it from scratch in gMax. Maybe I'm just being a "my 3D package is better than yours" anorak ;0)

Ah well, at least CFS3 has given me a good reason to learn how to use gMax properly.

Damn, another 20mb download on my 56k modem for a prog I just downloaded the other day. Good thing I have a download manager. This week I downloaded 133mb XP SP1, 212mb patch for Trainz (which also has Gmax plugin if anyone wants to do 3D train models), 15mb CFS3 SDK is in que, and Gmax twice. All on a 56k modem!

Is this SDK, in any way, going to allow designers to include mouse-panning in cockpit?

vonManstein, great work there.

The Me110 "Crayola" (as the Allies named it) that you have depicted flew for a short time in the European theater. It turns out that it could only be flown in cooler weather, as it had a tendency to melt into a big pile of gooey wax if the temperature was too high.

But seriously, keep up the good work. It's truly appreciated. I know how much hard work it can be, in creating addons and mods. I'm looking forward to your bird!
