I owned a 2.0 litre Capri finished in puke-green with a black vinyl roof.
Whilst on our honeymoon in deepest Wales (1994) it shredded the cambelt but being the 2.0 litre it survived engine damage. A local BMW dealer in Haverfordwest (it's still there I believe), towed us in, and took us to lunch whilst it was repaired. It was an early end to the honeymoon, the repair bill finished off most of our funds.
When I bought the car, the owner said there is a new cambelt in the boot. Well, stupid me took it out before departing on the love-trip and despite a mate saying I ought to get it fitted I thought 'what are the chances the belt will go'?
Pretty high as it happens
Lesson learned. All my cars since have always had the belt done as per the correct interval.
