The medals are not "fake" if you knew anything about the military of Commonwealth nations you know that medals are not handed out like 'candy' as they are in some countries. The comment is intensely insulting to those who have served in the military, Philip , for example, had a distinguished record in WW2 inhale, now let go. i read about phillip in the bio here, but both charles and the other one have the same ones, i doubt they have a distinguish carreer as phillip.

I am really appalled that anyone one here; what I thought was one of my last bastions of honor, duty, and and a sense of pride in service, can actually say anything bad about Prince Phillip, or Her Majesty for that matter.

They are privileged to be sure, but they are also aware of it and pay some price at least. More so than so-called leaders & politicians of modern times. The usual cheap shots and cheap memes appear, but they're to be expected by the usual sources. I guess I'm at an age now where almost anything I took for granted will all change pretty quickly now. I always had a queen, always had a strong cultural image because of that. Things will change I guess.

Overall I think the UK Monarchy is a good thing. Most have done their duties well. A cultural anchor for the Commonwealth.

To quote an Englishman:
I used to be wholly disinterested in the Monarchy. Then one Royal supporter made the really rather intelligent observation, that having a King or a Queen, means there will never be a President Blair. Or, in my personal nightmare, a President Thatcher.
I kind of got it then. Its highly useful to have a person above a Prime Minister, with largely mythical power, as a head of state, just to keep egos in check. No chance of a President Trump or Charles De Gaulle here.
There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB. The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed. There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

No chance of a President Trump or Charles De Gaulle here. No need to interject your own personal biases into a justification of why a constitutional monarchy may have some merit.

Overall I think the UK Monarchy is a good thing. Most have done their duties well. A cultural anchor for the Commonwealth. The main tangible reason for keeping the monarchy is the tourism money that it brings in.

I'd bet a hundred bucks if he'd said "No chance of a President Obama here" you wouldn't have said a word - indeed, you might have said "Good point!"... Ok, both of you back it down.
