Saw that, but I want to keep my front USB ports free for camera, data sticks, etc..

In my case, I want the 8 SATA ports. The high-end ASRock seems to have them too at a lower price point. However, right now, seems like Newegg and Amazon have neither my ASUS nor ASRock (or hardly any others).

I suppose the MB manufacturers held back production to see when and how things went. I hope the boards released in the next few weeks have the BIOSs mostly fixed. If so, waiting may pay off.

Pretty much what I wrote just above -- no motherboards for all of us with Ryzen CPUs on our workbench.

Quote
Channel Check: Ryzen CPU Supply Holding Strong – AM4 Motherboards Facing Severe Supply Shortage

..Enthusiasts around the world, however, will have to wait a bit as it would seem that while AMD had correctly anticipated the high demand, Add-In-Board partners weren’t able to provide a big enough initial production volume to meet initial demand...

..At the time of writing this report, Ryzen sales are being severely bottle-necked by an almost complete blackout of AM4 motherboards. AMD AM4 motherboards are produced by Add-in-Board partners and not only did they err-ed on the side of caution and underestimate demand, there are reports of problematic bios plaguing the early samples...

Ironic, it's like the OEMs didn't believe AMD would have enough supply so they didn't bother to make as many as they should have.

I think I'm in the minority because I like great performance with ultra image quality--so I have stuck with a single 1080p monitor for almost a decade now. smile I have a 6700k and a 1070, and even at 1080p I can't crank the latest games to max everything all the time. Moving to 1440p or 4k IMO requires a 1080 or SLI, and I'm not going there.
I would like a Gsync monitor, but there are almost no 24" 1080p models out there and they're often out of stock or overpriced. I don't have room for more than 1 24" monitor.

Bad news about the mother boards. This may be the last straw that pushes me over to the Intel side. Not having a gaming PC at all means my tolerance for waiting is quite low.

I totally get it.

You may want to wait the rest of this week -- because Newegg says "OUT OF STOCK. ETA: 3/9/2017" (Amazon, where mine is ordered since the morning of February 22, is non-committal).

I had not expected to get my Ryzen 1800X CPU until after the 7th; but got it on the 3d -- makes me a bit impatient -- but, I'm committed to waiting because I think the wait will be worth it. I do expect to have to "reflash" the BIOS at some point (based on what I've read). Intel stuff should be "good to go" right from the box.

At Amazon only one MB style available -- but its not really available today -- "Arrives between March 10-15".

I'm believing that the MB manufacturers were aiming at Mid-March to Late-March and were caught off guard by AMD releasing in Early March.

So, though we "enthusiasts" are enthusiastic and, therefore, worried, its likely that this MB shortage is no big deal (after all, its only 4 days after official Ryzen release). A month from now, this may all be "in the rear view mirror".

Amazon usually ships it so it arrives on release day. (usually), I ordered Xbox 360 Games on Amazon and they shipped 2 days before release and it was on my door step the day of, and in some rare cases, the night before.

The issue w/ the Mainboards is, they expected some people to go for the budget boards to offset demand for the Performance boards, but after reviews all clearly stated the budget boards had VRM issues w/ overclocking and XFR, everyone went for the performance boards. lol.

I doubt many people would have ordered budget boards for enthusiast class chips. Hopefully they would have skewed production ratios accordingly.

I'll wait until the end of the week to make a decision, but will most likely give it until the end of the month. Intel prices have not come down much.

Yeah, Really. If these chips are $350-$500, why would you buy a $70 board? Now I get that the $250+ boards still won't see a lot of people (unless they're desperate) because they have lots of features people won't need. I would never spend almost as much on the board as I would the CPU ($250 board for a $320 CPU? No) but I would easily spend $150. I've never had to spend over $200 because I've never needed those extras.

Uh-oh, Intel I7 architecture has only 12 months to live -- so the tape says (well maybe he exaggerates -- they may have 18 months) smile

The upshot of the video is that much of what was alluded to above in the thread -- for gaming cores matter, Windows etc. not optimized, etc -- is even more likely to be true and have a larger effect on gaming than we thought -- when it is fixed over the next 12 months, he says.

Better if folks watch the tape for themselves and make up their own mind smile

Competition is good smile

Considering the Core architecture has been evolved only slowly since the C2D came out back when, I'm astounded Intel has gotten this much mileage out of it.
I think they have a successor CPU on the drawing boards but were waiting for it to make financial sense to invest in making them. Ryzen may be that impetus.

Give it a year or so and we'll see the next Intel CPU be a departure from the past Bridge/Lake CPUs to be something new.

And now the AMD vs Intel battle moves to servers. Note: 32 core Zen CPUs. I imagine desktop PCs will go to 16 cores as part of the competition sooner than later .

IIRC, there was a leaked Sheet that said Zen+ in 1.5 Years would be when they released 12c/24t desktop, and later 16c/32t chips, however, TDP would be an issue, and they'd be under clocked like crazy compared to 8c/16t chips.
