Good fighting spirit, but USA relied too much on their keeper... the Belgian shot 38 times (23 were well aimed)... the best team won.

Chapeau,
great fight USA, you deserved to get into shoot-out `cause of the spirit in the last 30 minutes. If you only had a REAL striker.
Congrats Belgium!

I still can't beleive the opportunty missed by USA on the last minute of the regular time. Those are the kind of oprtunities that you just can't miss on a worldcup.
What a good player Beasley is, knows very well when to attack, he is fast, have good ball control, and accurate passing the ball. It's the player that gave me better impression from the team. Bradley this time made also a good game, far better that his previous games.
It was a good game, but i agree that the best team won.

The US showed some great fight all the way to the end, especially Tim Howard who was awesome, but eventually Belgium's quality and depth came through.
Well done to both teams, another dramatic match, this WC just keeps on giving.

No doubt the US has come along way in soccer and hopefully they'll get further at the next World Cup. That's something I said four years ago: with every WC the US team looks better and better. This time the only not-so-good match by the US team was against Germany. Apart from that - well played. And if there only had been a bit more time left yesterday...who knows what would have happened. Especially the team spirit displayed by them looked impressive to me.

We played ok, we sure choked a lot and our defense of course had to give Tim the workout. I want to be happy with Quarterfinals, but we didn't look like finalists the whole tourney, was more of a surprise...
Oh well there's always next... 2018... Yeah we have a lot of heart and fight which is something to be proud of the way they played, but we just don't have the quality and depth on the bench in most positions, to handle when someone is injured or yellow carded or having a bad game like the other top teams do during a long tournament like this. A team like Belgium is able to leave a top scorer like Lukaku on the bench as a substitute most games, and then only bring him in nice and fresh and with a point to prove, when the team really needs an impact against our tired squad that has been playing every game and is carrying injuries and yellows... Here's hoping the US can develop a few more good young players like Yedlin and Green to give us some depth in key positions to better handle long tournaments, both of them looked really promising yesterday. Good job USA, all things considered they did amazingly well and made us proud

I agree that the US had a good tournament and can hold their heads high, and also that we just simply lack the quality to play with the top teams. The whole country is singing their praises, but really, in my view, they won just one game and only played well in the Portugal game.
The determination and never-say-die attitude are valuable traits, but if it isn't combined with technique and tactical nous it's not possible to beat the best teams consistently. I'm proud of the team, but they do have a long way to go to contend in these major tournaments. The Copa America in 2016 will be played in the US with the US participating. That will be their next major test and it will be interesting to see how they do.
Overall, some players for the US surprised me, and some disappointed. Bradley played better in the Belgium game, but I feel he had a poor tournament overall. Dempsey, though he delivered some big goals, seemed to disappear for long stretches, though obviously a lack of service plays a big part. Jones had a fantastic WC, but wasn't at his best yesterday. Beckerman played well. Yedlin was , to me, a revelation. He may be a bit nave defensively, but he was fantastic going forward, and right back, long a weakness with a guy like Cherundolo the stalwart, suddenly looks very promising indeed, with Yedlin and Fabian Johnson both impressing.
Wondoloski didn't get much of a chance, but oh that chance! Oh my. I just took my head out of my hands...
Beasley did better than I expected, and credit to him. He got caught out too often against Ghana, but got better as the tournament went on. Bedoya and Zusi were largely ineffective, though they have plenty of application.
And then there is Tim Howard. Solid all tournament, he was IMMENSE yesterday. What we saw was a masterclass in positioning. Did any of his saves require him to move laterally? He was always in the right place. tremendous and he deserved his MoM.
The US is still far away, but there is plenty of reason for optimism, and I hope they can kick on from this and become a better side.
No, now go away or I shall taunt you a second time!

Good analysis, well said. I also hope Klinsman's efforts on the national youth teams and development academies and the continual improvement of the MLS will increase the quality and depth of the team for future tournaments. One of the things I like about him is how he hasn't been shy about mentioning improvements in those things are really necessary for the USA to be real contenders at the international level, those comments have not always gone over so well with some of my MLS fan friends, but hit home to anyone who also watches other top leagues.

The US team played extremely well, like the Algerian team too, taking their chances everytime they could, against superior teams which eventually manage to break their safe (and with very good and CLEVER keepers,Neuer included, who showed brilliant "situationnal awareness". Congrats to both team to show us what a good team spirit can do . Now about the next Germany game, let's not forget that it will be #2 (#1 since the big Spain failure ?) against #17...
