Very very nice.
That's quite a rare mixture of WW2 and post-war early jets. Would be great to see some of those around here!

Awesome! I'm loving the Mossie! Following the Mossie on Facebook..like the restoration company Avspecs for news of the plane.

A flying friend of mine was down there for the show, the lucy git!

In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!

That's right, I heard (as I didn't go) that most of the WWI flying on Saturday was scrubbed due to the WX

Thank you so much for posting those beautiful photos Oesau. I was at the air show on Saturday and while I had a fantastic day out my lack of camera skill's meant that my photos weren't worth showing. Your right that the Mossie upstaged my usual favourite the Spitfire, though the Avro Anson MK1 was a special guest too.

As we left the show the Mossie continued to make a number of low level runs which were impressive to watch as it went over us at tree height ! It's also a smooth sounding plane unlike the Harvard which had an awful whine.

It wasn't the best day for WW1 aircraft, I was at a previous show some years back and they held a massive WW1 mock battle in the morning which was truly a spectacle.

Great shots, nice prop blur. Would love to know the details of your camera settings, speed, ISO, lens etc

Hi Yoda, click on the photo links (just under the actual photo itself) and you will linked to Flickr page, there on the right hand side of the page you will see the camera settings used for each shot.

Prop blur is the one of the constraining factors when taking photos of prop a/c, I try and keep the lens at f8 (one of it's sweet spots) and then also work within the boundaries of 1/120 - 1/200 for shutter to get the blurred prop. The trick is of course, keeping the camera steady at long focal lengths and getting the shot sharp as well as getting the exposure right so at times you have to make changes to shutter, f-stop, as well as ISO.

Jet aircraft are easier in the respect of shutter speed as you can just got to what speed you need, however I haven't had a lot of practice with them and I do find my panning shots of them at speed are somewhat average...

I'm learning, trust me, there are sooo many shots that I just reject because they are blurred. The important thing is to keep trying (hard when there aren't that many airshows on), write a debrief so you learn from your mistakes, and then next time hopefully it turns out better.

Thanks for that. How many stops are you over exposing for a clear sky? 1/200, f8, ISO 100, 200mm (the 3 se5a's) would suggest somewhere around 1.5 - 2 stops.

Coming over for the Omaka show?

Yes, it's about that amount, I must admit I am focus more on getting the aircraft as exposed correctly with metering set to spot mode (also shotting in manual mode – this allows me to if need be change my aperture to meet exposure needs – 8 is what I am for, but I do go up and down from what when required).

My challenge as of late is getting the colour balance correct – I’ve lately been doing a lot of playing around with getting the sky colour correct and admittedly the photos above aren’t close to what it should be. In fact I corrected them yesterday and they are looking a lot more natural.

Omaka – yes, that’s the current plan and very much looking forward to it, are you going to be there?
