Hi everyone. I used to casually play F/A-18 years ago but just recently restarted playing it. This is the first time I've installed TSH. I have to give a shout out to you guys at TSH for your amazing work. Being able to use my X52, rudders and Track IR with the improved look of the sim is great.

I have noticed a problem I don't remember ever seeing before, but it must have been there all the time. The air speed indicator in my hud never drops below 48. Even sitting still on the ground. If I bring up the hud in the UFC, it displays speed properly. I wondered if it had something to do with large hud fonts or something else in TSH. I fired up another older computer that I used to play JF18 on, without TSH, and it has the same issue. So it must have been there all along and I never noticed it. Is this a common problem or do I have something unusual? I tried to search the forum and archive and couldn't find anything.

Thanks, Werner

I am told be a reliable source (a retired naval aviator) that this is not a 'bug,' but reflects a real world characteristic of the Super Hornet. The airspeed measuring equipment of the aircraft works by differential pressures. It can't measure anything below 48 knots because there's no appreciable wind across the probes.

Wow, that seems weird. So that's part of the game then. I find it a bit confusing when I taxi, but I'm sure I'll get used to referencing the hud in the ufc.

Thanks, Werner

Yeah, that's normal. You can get your true airspeed/ground speed in the HSI or in the radar (lower left corner.)

Thanks for pointing that out. No I have a few options for ground speed.

This is true, typically the airspeed doesnt register on jet and large high performance aircraft below 50 knots...some of the indicators dont even start until 50 knots. If you get below that on an instrument they are probably have an input from an inertial, GPS or Ring Laser Gyro system.

That is typical of most aircraft (40KIAS in what I've flown). The airspeed indicator is showing just that-airspeed. If the wind is blowing 15kts head on, it would indicate 15kias when you aren't moving. It isn't the most effective source for your speed on the ground. Use GS to cross check your speed on the ground if you're concerned about it.
