As far as I remember, Jason acknowledged the fact that, using RoF settings options, there will be shimmering. Those using RoF this way probably have shimmering but haven't noticed them (if you're still used to old gen sims you might still be used to jaggies. If you fly FSX using tweaked settings with nhancer, you've probably become very sensitive to jaggies, like I am, but it's not uncommon to have no jaggies at all, I play OFF with neat and clean textures at the horizon...). Jason explained that the devs didn't have FSAA and texture filtering in mind at first, but they re introduced them in the end. However, RoF doesn't let easily external applications change these settings. As far as I remember from what has been said, and my tests, you will only be able to tweak your settings with nvidia cp or nhancer if you disable "post effects" entirely in RoF settings (yes, bye bye rain drops...). My results with that are mixed: I definitely see improvements when using FSAA such as combined 8xSQ, I also use 16x anisotropic filtering, and strangely, it's not as good and clean as it should, instead I would say it still looks like 8x (ie the horizon shows mild shimmering) and I wonder if RoF accepts any settings from nhancer as regards texture Filtering (regardless, the improved FSAA is a significant progress). Now, if only we could have these settings without RoF being forced to post effects=off (and texture filtering at 16x please?), it would be great Nothing possible in a short time I'm sure, but over a longer term, I hope neoqb will hear our concerns

Odd. Jaggies are a curse for the discerning simmer. Why build something gorgeous and destroy the clean lines with jaggies ? That bloke was right .... this thing is toast ! Not really ... just joking .... (yes, bye bye rain drops...). Noooooooooo ! Think of global warming {deep breath} ............. Nooooooooo !

Guys, try this. It has always worked for me so that's why I never knew about shimmering.
Enable COMBINED MODE antialiasing 4xs in NHANCER. It WORKS great without a noticeable fps loss.
I'm running Rise of Flight on an AMD Athlon 64 x2 5200+, 4gb ddr2 800mhz and a GeForce 8800GT.
With everything in med but textures and trees and something more in high it works great. Also AF 12x (NHANCER again) and Vsync.
See ya!
Edit: I'm using a 1680 x 1050 res and everything looks smooth I installed enhancer, followed your settings, but no joy. Still shimmering....same FPS. This is with RoF no post effects. Ukee, give me more specifics: in RoF, do you disable anistropic? I have it at x8 AA is at 4 In nhancer, do you have trilinear optimization on? I dont Aniso optimization? I have it on off. prerender limit? default is set to 3 on mine. I'll twiddle a bit with this, but I'm not optimistic.

I tried as many variables as I could think of over the last 2 hours. All lead to the same results: Shimmering, and low fps. Actually hit 11 fps in a dogfight lol! nhancer doesnt do anything that cp doesnt do.
Thanks for the idea though...at least we are ruling everything out at this point. any other ideas?
(thought we'd hear *something* from Neoqb today... )

i still think the guys who say they dont have shimmering just dont notice it Well, I definitely had it (shimmering) and when I found this thread and all I did was activate the "combined" form of AA (kept it at 4x) my shimmering was gone. I also didn't change a thing within the game's settings either: All on high, post effects off, vertical sync off, 4X AA, 8X AF. Keep in mind that settings aren't the only variable in why you see what you see. Driver version will also affect this for one. Obviously it won't work for all people with all drivers and types of equipment but it's worth trying to see if it will help you. It did me. And it doesn't matter to me whether you believe me or not.

earlier in the thread it was stated that there is NO shimmering if you are doing a turn, or slow turn. It's a clear as can be....no matter what the settings. when you fly straight, and look ahead to to left and right, the shimmering is unmistakeable. screenshots should show straight ahead and/or looking left/right, with no turn.
thanks for taking the time to post the shots!
