I'll be in bed in about an hour. Maybe we can get something set up tomorrow.

I should probably practice a few rounds against the AI to shake a little bit of the dust off, otherwise I will be completely owned by you once we do fly ...

THAT is NOT going to happen. Surely, if you wish to duke it out, there are a TON of online flight simulators going: anyone of which, you could participate in.

The fact is, the ONLY flight simulator i partipate in online ,is microsoft flight simulator.Years ago i flew others online. Today my time is is occupied with other things.

I came back to this forum after many years because i was looking for help with janes f-15: I'ld found a lot of help here in the late '90s, but this time, in hindsight, it's been a little slow: people here, have there own things they're trying to iron out.

So my advice, take it or leave it, is to join any one of the on going combat flight sims currently flying: i don't believe you will be dissappointed.

have fun.

Wow, apparently I was confused this entire time. I thought we were talking about getting a rig set up so we could fly F-15 online. Since the only thing you can do online with F-15 is dogfight (no NATURAL Coop mode), naturally, that is what I thought we'd do.

I do own many other sims and do occasionally fly them online sometimes. I was just looking for some people to fly with in F-15 for old times sake. Sorry that we were on a completely different page.

Pppeace.

I'll pass on it. I may be mistaken but he seems too eager for the online flight fights. Besides, I'm just getting back into the sim and this kind of play really isn't on my mind just yet.

To eager for online flights..? You make it sound like a crack addiction. Interesting. I do believe that when I stated I was looking to fly FOR OLD TIMES sake, that yes, there will be a little bit of excitement, considering it has been over a year since I've last flown this online.

If that is being too eager and considered a "negative", then I'd hate to hear your real world views!

Yeesh, lighten up people.

Also - If you ever did want to just go up online WITHOUT fighting, that would be fine as well. I've been under the impression that we were talking dogfights this entire time. There is a hidden Noah's Ark out in the mountains on the multiplayer map that I could lead you to, or we could race from base to base doing landings, or I'd even be willing to train you on some of the more advanced tactics that I picked up over the years in flying this sim.

I think I'm being pretty open; there is no need to get nasty.

enough: what claude and i are trying to do here is get this simulator to run under Windows Vista.

I feel the video driver problem should be solved within the next few months, as nvidia produces more capable drivers for Vista.

I don't see this as an intractible problem. Meanwhile we run it using the win-xp video drivers that came with our cards.

PLAYING ONLINE is extremely LOW in order of priority. IT'S about being able to PLAY IT WHEN WE WANT TO.

I know that that WIN-XP drivers downloaded from Nvidia won't install on Vista: but, you can force install the WIN-XP drivers that came with your video cards on Vista.

The problem, it'll crash your other games\app: you can run Vista normally withe the WIN-XP drivers,
the problem arises when the calls become more intense. Nv4_mini.sys the inner workings of which i have no idea about, is apparently coded differently in the Vista video drivers, or is non-extant.

I thought of taking a look at the offending file that's part of the Nvidia drivers to see what's up with it. Probably will need some type of hex editor or the likes to look at it. If it's possible at all.

Chill down some. No one is accussing you of being a addict to anything. And what does my opinion of real situations have to do with trying to get this simm to run so everyone can enjoy it?

just got back: I swear my wife has no idea how much it screws my back to drive...

i agree. that's the next step: time to get to the heart of the matter. I thought about trying Nvidia's Ntune: but, i am totally against overclocking my stuff, so i tend to stay away from such software even though there're other useful things they can be used for.

so, 'am gonna start gathering some software and start some serious investigating.

NV4_MINI.SYS is a MINI PORT driver: whatever the hell that is.

when using the win-xp drivers, 3dfx is fine
setting the driver in the game to "primary display (driver)"
causes this:

Debug Assertion Failed!
Program: c\janes\f15\f15.exe
File: dlgdata.cpp
Line: 307

For information on how your program can cause an assertion failure, see the Visual C++
documentation on asserts.

it seems that this particular file is not a part of Nvidia's Windows Vista video drivers.
So we might be confronting an impasse!

Claude,
you may keep an eye on this forum: these guys are talking about Nvidia driver issues for Vista, and other WIN OS.
We may have to wait for Nvidia to catch up. It seems that they're having all kinds of problems.
If this issue with F-15 isn't resolved with a driver update in a few months, 'am definately gonna go out and buy ATI.

after looking at that mess over there, there's no way they can continue issuing new drivers that eventually, doesn't fix this video problem.

we can sit back, and let the solution come to us.

meanwhile do this http://www.simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2205332&page=1#Post2205332

I'm up and running. I'm just having to switch back and forth between the vista drivers and xp drivers.
