They may work if configured under DXWND wrapper. I noticed a few settings but didn't bother.

There is also this to code into EAW a smacker player.:

Thanks Mark. I noticed the libsmacker library. Will try something with DXWND.

I think I remember that the smacker videos use the original MPG codec. I could be wrong. I know this missing codec is why the PE MPG will not play and crash that game on modern systems.

Funny thing is that the original Smacker utilities run under Windows 10, and they happily play the EAW videos under W10, just that the game itself wont, at least not properly. I get the sound okay, I get the intro animation in a stuttering form. The others I get no picture, except that if you stop them part way through you get a flash of the frame it got to.

I just have this intuition that there ought to be a way to get them playing.

Moggy,
That makes me think the needed codec is included in the tools, but not in Win10

The original Smacker utility smackplw.exe works fine for me under Windows 10.

In 128C I put smackplw.exe in the 128C folder, and the intro videos in the scenario folder.

Also in the scenario folder I put a batch file containing the following:

..\smackplw globe.smk intro.smk /W1920 /H1080 /Z /I1
C:\users\......\desktop\128CFly.lnk

Starting the batch file, the smacker intro videos are played full screen, and then EAW is launched.

It probably doesn't play the in-game Film videos?

The utility will play any smacker video under Windows 10, which tells us that there is no inherent problem with Windows 10 and the smacker videos.

However the bodge above uses the utility to play the intro videos externally to the game. It won't play the videos as part of gameplay.

Well that was already known. RAD Games sells the programs and code to play smk videos in all its revisions on their site.
I have converted smackers into avi's which Windows can play natively too.

What I was wondering about was the in game smackers used during the game. So It doesn't, that was the answer.

The player your using is good for perhaps an add-on campaigns that have there own videos that can call the batch file.
