Well my wife and I just watched all 5 seasons of Agents of SHIELD in about 2 months time
Yeah, we liked it.
I just hope the ending of season 5 doesn't stand.

It’s a good show, even if not the same as it started. It was renewed already and since it follows the events in the movies, and IIRC, the next season comes *after* Infinity War 2, there’s no telling what could happen. They mentioned the Thanos situation was going on simultaneously at the end.

It won't.
It's not too long a shot to think that in the next Avengers movie the worst kept secret of the MCU - Phil Coulson lived - is destroyed and some more alien juice is slipped into his morning coffee so he can help out. Everybody but the Avengers themselves seem to know he survived Loki's scepter, it would seem.
If not, there is always some sort of voodoo means of obtaining more. Or another possession by Ghost Rider. Or an inter-dimensional being. Or robot parts left over from the AIDA project. Or robot parts left over from the Dethlock project. Or robot parts left over from the Centipede Program. Or Coulson was one of those eliminated by Thanos, and when he is defeated and everyone brought back, so is he, but healed. Or, or, or....it's Agents of SHIELD, so any number of possibilities exist.
If they eliminate the Coulson and May characters from the series, it's over. They are the only compelling reasons to watch, and ratings will zero out without them.

Yep, Coulson is my favorite on the show. Liked him better when he wore suits all the time though
Don't care much for May. Her tough "guy" look, walk, attitude all the friggin time just annoys me.

Well, May is the enforcer of the group.
As much as I love Coulson as a character, he's pretty lame as a leader. Without May keeping everyone focused, they'd be on random missions to find a rumored magical Pez dispenser.
For an old soldier like me, she resonates. Coulson is the commander, but May is the Command Sergeant Major that helps interpret orders, keep the beans and bullets flowing, and even does the tough love disciplining. Without May there would probably be three or four designated Safe Spaces in every base and one designated on every vehicle.
And as an NCO, "showmanship" is a big part of leadership.
I remember an excellent NCO I worked with once who had idly picked up a pretty wildflower and stuck it in his pocket with a little grin nobody else saw. When a Private asked him about it, he scowled and said they have complex sugars and B vitamins in them and promptly ate it.
"Shame it didn't come with a bee," he said, "it could use some protein."

I get the need for and purpose of such a character, I just don't buy Ming-Na Wen as the one to pull it off.

I’ve grown to like her, but I picture more as the doctor from ER. Lucy Liu or Kelly Hu (sometimes on Arrow) would’ve been better.
I find her the right level of seriousness - she isn't there to be your best buddy, or your soft pillow, she is there to kick ass and take names. And she doesn't care if you don't like her.

This.
And she's the only one that acts like an employee of an organization, rather than a family member.
The only person she really gives a damn about it Coulson, who, amazingly enough, signs her paycheck.

Clip Description: Before reaching Thor's hammer after the events of "Captain America: The First Avenger", Agent Coulson stops at a convenience store and deals with a coincidental robbery during his visit.
