Seems like the author of the mistakes website has something against him.

I thought he was cool in Top Gun (and in Back To The Future and in Masters Of The Universe)

He's the air boss on the carrier that Maverick was serving on. I believe the term "CAG" is pretty much the same thing. I'm sure NavyNuke can give you a better answer. smile

It's never really explained, and it's really confusing tome, since he just yells a lot and doesn't do much else. Modern CAG's, if I remember right are full-bird Captains, while the Tomcat squadron CO would definitely be a Commander's billet. However, if he was yelling like that in CIC/ CATCC, the controllers/ CATCC Officer/ TAO would've told him to shut the *&(* up and kicked him out. Definitely not the Air Boss, who would've been in the Tower- especially considering any Air Boss worth his salt would've immediately moved the two ready 'Cats off the down catapults and shifted them to the waist cats.

I think that's more a failing on the part of the scriptwriters than anything else. I've always enjoyed James Tolkan in movies as well.

Tolkan is definitely one of the best character actors out there. He's still in the business the last time I checked.

Haha..I love it..Not a huge Cruise Fan but I can take him in this one...
I never saw it in the Theater so I first saw it on VHS around the time I was flying my Amiga 500 F/A 18 Interceptor.

Movie had everything for back then. Motorcycle, girls, Carriers, The Tomcat, IceMan, Tom Skerritt and Viper!

What else did we have besides Iron Eagle ( love that too..LOL ) and The Final Countdown ( love that also )

Flight of the Intruder is probably the best one I have seen in this regards.....Willem Dafoe even kicking the side of the cockpit to try and get the mechanical DIANE working........yeah I know.........

Speaking of mistakes, I still can't believe that they used the term "Royal Army" in the otherwise great tv series "Turn". There was no such term. The writers I guess assumed that the British used the term since there was a "Royal Navy".

I also liked Bat-21.

Most people (in the public) have forgotten about that film.

#80. Maverick slams the throttle which back in the 85-6 would cause a flame out due to the poor engines.

#81 Maverick manages to keep the F-14 inverted way too long without blowing the engines.

LOL! I just watched the Mystery Science Theatre 3000 version a few days ago. There's nothing more exciting than watching about 10 minutes of mid-air refueling scenes.

#82 It would be extremely unlikely that both bow catapults on the Enterprise would go down at the same time, because it would mean two separate groups of people would have screwed several different pooches very, very badly.

#83 CAG/ Tomcat Squadron CO/ Whatever the f Stinger's billet is wouldn't be the one ordering around the planes on the deck. That would be the carrier CO.

I would find it more interesting to find the errors in a film that is SUPPOSED to be accurate and realistic.

He's a flightsimmer. It's normal to dissect an aviation movie. Cut him some slack.

Every time someone mentioned the Stealth movie, it reminds me of people who actually posted video and photos of the fake Stealth fighter from it thinking it's the real thing.

There was even an entire website at one time with photos and videos of it touting it as America's newest and most amazing carrier based fighter: can't find it now.

SUCKERS!

Some of the folks posting that, and honestly buying it hook, line, and sinker, were sailors on my ship. Another aircraft carrier.
