I dont think you will see anything green for a long time. I do agree the whiteness can kill it after a while. The retextured Stalingrad map made for il246 is much better imo, as far as "dirty" and "gritty" goes. Wish BoS followed that direction.

To break up the environment, get IL21946 and CLoD as well. Both are cheap and worth every penny.

Yep, have both of them along with pretty much every other sim there is, I just imagine winter looking a little more muddy and brown with some greens here and there rather than monochromatic but, I understand that at this point it saves on rendering and FPS. Rise of Flight has nice winter textures but you also tend to fly lower and slower.

Winter in Russia, that year especially, was that white. Maybe some dust from the concrete and mortar of the destroyed buildings, but it was very snowy and very cold. Not like Europe and here in the US where you might get a mid winter thaw.

Unfortunately for the hard core simming crowd, the more hardcore a sim is, the smaller market, and profit it generates. Options are the key to success, and still provide features for the more hardcore simmers. WT is a decent sim, but my eyes glaze over when it uses Lions and Tigers to advance to newer aircraft. BOS isn't as bad, atleast you can fly most of the aircraft, and just grind for a few aircraft accessories. I prefer the COD's business model, but that business model has become too expensive to work. A modified DCS World business model may be the best. Either way I've supported them all. Whatever our preference, for most of us the price is too ridiculously cheap, not too.

Price is subjective.

I dont feel bad that I paid full price for CLoD back at release. Dont get me wrong, I felt buyers remorse after the failed launch, but got over it with Team Fusion.

Same with IL2 original. I bought a boxed copy at full price, then later lost it and purchased again on steam at a reduced price, then bought it at gog.com for the ease of modding not using steam. I dont regret the money spent.

With BoS I dont feel its worth the price I paid for it. There is no meat and bones yet for me, and not sure if it will be the in the future. Maybe it will be a CLoD situation? But in all honestly if it was $5 right now I would pass. Just because even at $5 I would not get any use out of it now.

I feel the same about CoD. I've still got it on my PC, but I never use it. I just don't spend all my time on the CoD/ATAG forum telling anyone who will listen that I'm not playing the game.

I am bit wondering about the pretty high early access price. The gold access is probably lot more pricey than the released game. I guess it's some sort of crowd funding? smile

The retail price of the Premium editions is going to be $99. Early access buyers got a discount.

yeah, but i am willing to pay for single planes, as long as it helps to further develop RoF or future sims smile

Combat flight sims have become too complex and costly for the old IL-2 business model of just paying for whole expansions. I think the model of paying for intermittent complex aircraft, and maps might better sustain a development with more regular pay days, instead of one every few years.

I would think most are on board for the new model of pricing if there is a flight sim when all is said and done. I'm not spending anymore for the arcade elements that are now in place. If my $100 wasn't enough to help get us there to a worthy IL-2 type flight sim…then I guess I'm out of this one. I don't believe in the montra that we should keep shoveling money their way and maybe…just maybe they will make a sim out of it someday.

I hear ya.
I think the Russian team may react to the response from the community however.
They can't do it instantaneously of course, but they'd be fools not to change course a bit.
I'm giving it time. I can live with the unlocks for now.

I for one is really enjoying this game, and even the campaign. I was never able to enjoy the original IL2, IL2-CLOD, BOB etc. campaigns. I haven't had this much fun since the days of CFS (1, 2 & 3) & EAW. I don't mind the unlocks; flying successful long normal missions generates a fair bit of XP, and it is nice to enjoy each new skin/paint scheme as it is unlocked.

I am not touching multiplayer for a while yet; still enjoying the campaign too much. Sometimes not much happens, and other times more than a lot. I am happy with the direction this is going.

I can sorta agree with your enthusiasm it does look sweet but I'd compare it to the box top art on a model kit, looks cool and the parts look good so there is that potential of a great build or you can get careless and muck it up.
