So, is everyone just waiting for Alien Resurrection? I registered at the "official" forums but am not allowed to post; don't know why.
There is a very odd statement at the bottom of the list of the topics:
"Online users
Sorry, you are not authorized to view this page"
Who the heck other than people online would be viewing the forum pages?
Anyway, does anyone know anything about the PC specs, and whether there will be a game on disks for purchase? Right now it looks like there will only be a digital download for PC available from STEAM!

Never even heard of this game. The only "Alien Resurrection" I know of is the film!
“Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.”
Buddy of mine saw it at E3. Absolutely terrifying he said. It captures the essence of the Alien universe and that overwhelming sense of dread that every decision you make could be your last.
He went into detail about watching the PCG guys play it and how hilarious it was. They would move into a room slowly, looking everywhere, they'd hear a sound and move back to their previous position and just sit there. All the while breathing heavily and shaking. But since the Aliens movements aren't scripted, doing that typically resulted in sweat induced screams as the Xeno would pop out of a air duct or from another room and kill them.
That sounds very promising Det! I have pre ordered as I couldn't pass up the chance to play on the Nostromo as one of the original surviving crew which comes as DLC if you pre order, ( they have also reunited the original cast, except Ian HOLM, to do the voices. )
The clips I have seen also look promising, and lets be honest... it really couldn't be any worse than colonial marines now could it???!!!

Like a #%&*$#' moron and against my better judgement, I per-ordered it as well. I really should know better concerning CA after the abortion that was/is Rome II. But hey, I'm a sucker for the Trilogy (Yes Trilogy. No one counts A4/Res) so it was a no brainier for me.
Whether or not that turns out to be a terrible decision? Spose' we'll have to wait and see.

In case you're interested, Rome 2 has been majorly improved with all of the patches.

If it sucks we can console each other with a big man-hug!
At Ease that #%&*$#! I don't hug Dudes.
If it turns out to be horrible I'll just get drunk, pull out my Director and Cast signed copies of the Alien and Aliens scripts, and burn them. I will also punch myself in the face because I deserve it.
Edit - Negatives concerning RII? Yeah, it's garbage. The modicum of depth of the previous TW games is totally absent. This was ultimately to be expected though. The developers that worked on Medieval, Rome 1, ETW etc departed Creative Assembly years ago. RII is nothing but a run of the mill point and click RTS.

My concern for this game is that it makes for excellent game trailers and short videos of gameplay, but will it get old playing through it even if it's just a 12 hour game? It makes for a good 2 hr movie, or part of a movie, but can they really make a game that's interesting from beginning to end with just one alien and one player character? I'm guessing you simply can't kill the thing until the end, so is this basically an indie-style horror game like Penumbra and Amnesia? Always hiding and searching, maybe a puzzle of some sort? Or can you sometimes figure out a way to kill it early on? As good as it looks, I think I'm waiting to see if there's more to it than a good trailer maker.

That is indeed why I think till now every video game has taken a stab at the "Aliens" side of things (or AvP) and not the Alien/Alien 3 "one monster vs helpless people" horror trope.
However, in recent years the survival horror genre of games has become more prominent and I think they finally believe they can make a game in this vein that will sell enough to warrant paying for the license.

This from IGN deals per email today. I cannot pre-order until I see the actual PC specs and whether a a boxed version, rather than just a download, will be available.

I have no idea how long it actually is, just going by how long most games seem to be these days. Surely they can't stretch a game like this out for much longer than that though?

12 hours to finish a first person shooter (even a slow drawn out stealth one) isn't too bad imho. It's very rare these days to find a FPS game that takes more than 20 hours to finish. I'm not counting RPG's of course like Skyrim or Fallout.
