Two questions: Anyone using the Saitek X52 (not the pro version) successfully? The rudder should be controlled via twisting the joystick, but rather than incremental changes to the rudder position it is basically 3: Center, full left and full right.

Second question:

So, assuming I can't get this to work and return it, what joysticks work well? Any force feedback compatible with Win8 64 bit that I might pick up on Ebay (it appears excluding some very high priced systems there are any). And if not force feedback, what seems to be working well?

Thanks,
Greg

Greg - yep I have just plugged in one here on my dev rig - its a Siatek X-52 two unit controller.

Works on default settings and I use no Saitek config software at all.

I have sent you mail to help.

Thanks that it works. So, I've tried uninstalling & reinstalling both WOFF and CF3 to no avail. What I don't know is if there are configuration files that are tucked away that are not getting uninstalled.

In the workshop you have to make sure you unbind any other controller from the action you want to allocate to the X52 and then bind it to the X52, it's a bit long and involved but it works. Somewhere round here I asked the same question and got a response from Polovski. Try this http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/3894959/Re_Incorrect_joystick#Post3894959

More info. In talking with Saitek, I was told the X52 driver is not compatible with Win8.1 (sorry for not being clear earlier). So, anyone using the X52 with either Win8 or Win8.1. And no date for the updated driver.

Wow, greg, I'm glad I have no plans to go to Win8! I have to go back over my settings, as I have the rudder pedals as well. Everything seems to go ok, except I thought I hand my mixture on the slider by my thumb on the throttle. But while it will affect things in flight, it doesn't affect them consistently or logically. So I think I'll check jerryboy's link again and see if I screwed that up somehow.

There are plenty of Saitek X52's out there. I spent a lot on mine (pro + rudder pedals) and can't imagine it being made obsolete, that's a shame.

<went to check the link and try things out>
And, as long as we're on the subject, when I try to re-assign my buttons in the workshops, one issue is that the scroll bar on the button list "quivers" and won't slide up and down for me. I can see the buttons change status, but when I slide my (hopefully) mixture slider, it's either beyond the end of the list or something else is wrong - I see no action but I hear a series of beeps that quits a little while after I stop sliding it. And it appears there is no "mixture axis" for me to assign this to.

Thanks for letting me butt in, hope you get some good joystick recommendations (or find a way to dual boot back to Win7!)
