Can someone advise with the following;

1- I have the latest DX installed..Do I need this converter d/l?

2- I know what SweetX is supposed to do for graphics..Where can I get it and how does one activate it after files are installed?

Thanks in advance,

Royce

cptroyce,

Yann98 provided some good instructions and download links here:
http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/3891977/Re_DirectX_8_to_9_converter_th#Post3891977

I have used Yann's recommended FiFi settings and Broadside's settings and both work well with my ATI card.

I found the DX8-DX9 converter to be helpful in improving FPS. SweetFX improves the graphics, but I found it too dark for my taste. I think the devs got the colors just right.

I like the original clouds, but you should also consider Aris' HD Cloud Textures if your rig can handle the bigger textures.

Thanks BD

I have Aris' Clouds installed and they're great.

After the 1.11 patch..my set up is now maxed out and running just fine. Perhaps I'll leave well enough alone.

I'm just gonna dangle the carrot anyway. I'm running everything max and it's great. After playing with Sweetfx's settings, I even reverted back to its default settings, and it still just gives the game a tiny bit of brightness and color that I just don't want to do without again.

3. open converter zip file and copy into WOFF directory

4. change the d3d8.ini file

5. open the sweetfx zip file and copy to WOFF directory

optional step -
6. copy and overwrite sweetfx settings - I used Fifi's settings.

7. open sweetfx settings and change values to remove bloom

You can run dxdiag.exe from your search button, though I would just install sweetfx and see if it works. Worst case you can remove the files and stay vanilla.

If you run dxdiag it will list a version in one of the tabs.

Posted this in FAQ as well.

Perhaps someone can offer further advice?

I have d/l SweetFx..Had DX9 already installed..manually transferred the files into the OBD folders as shown above..used Broadside' settings..installed as shown into the presets file..then put into the file that has the line #include: etc..and I don't see any difference when running WOFF. I checked my Nvidia Inspector and Control Panel and Muti-sampling is disabled.

The d/l is the latest 1.5.1 and it came with a GUI SweetFX configure tool.

Not sure what I am doing wrong?

Did you hit scroll lock while ingame to see if it turns off and on, cptroyce?

No I didn't hit the scroll lock button because I usually tap it so I can use the pan function on the POV hat button on the joystick.

So once the sim runs, I need to hit the scroll lock button?

No, you don't have to, but it turns it off and on so I suggested it to see if you notice any difference. It should be on by default if you installed it correctly.

Ankor stated this reminder:
"It is important that you edit d3d8.ini and set NoMultisampling=1 in that file, not just disable it in the inspector."

Did you do that?

I don't have an d3d8.ini file. I have a d3d9.dll file..which I can't open. Where would I find the d3d8.ini I've looked everywhere that I can think of?

Post #1 of the converter thread. Once you get it, if you have a d3d8.dll and a d3d8 file that lacks a *.ini extension, it's the d3d8 file.

I have tried Broadside's settings file and apparently it is causing WOFF to not load up.

However, the default SweetX settings do not cause problems; although the default effects are barely discernible.

Is there other SweetX settings files that I could try that already work with WOFF?

Royce,

I had good luck with FiFi settings described by Yaan98 here:

http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/3891977/Re_DirectX_8_to_9_converter_th#Post3891977

Broadside's settings worked for me, too.

I directly installed following Yaan98's instructions...no other softwares required, other than the d3d8 to d3d9 converter.
