I envy you, but I just cannot justify spending that much money on a game. If I were single with no kids sure, oh well. Perhaps someday. I am even more tempted now hearing there are playable Brads, would be nice to relive my Cav days.

RE: Shadows

I believe Magnum posted some shots awhile back with SBPro and EnbSeries installed. Looked pretty good.

SB with EnbSeries looks beautiful indeed. No real substitute for dynamic shadows but more than enough eye candy for me.

If you like tanks, you will probably play this for years. In terms of that it is cheaper than a 50-60 dollar title that you play for a few hours.

I have to admit. The initial cost of SB pro PE does seem a little steep.

But to be honest, for me the game is worth it. It runs very very very well on mediocre machines, it has an incredibly indepth mission editor, it is still being improved, customer support is brilliant, and most of all the gameplay online really is a hell of a lot of fun and stable.

Again, i won't argue the initial outlay argument. It can seem a hefty sum.

However, i would put it this way. If you have any interest at all in land armour combat, then if you can, do yourself a favour and go for it. Putting a few dollars aside every week (the penny jar) will have you the game for little to no loss of lifestyle.

Well said bogusheadbox. I've had it for years now and still play it regularly. I've gotten more than my money's worth out of it and plan to continue with it for years to come. A couple of months back I was playing an online campaign put together by one of the guys who works at Esim. On average, we had 30-40 people showing up every Friday night for the big battle. There were 8-10 missions plus the scout missions which we played on Wednesday nights. It was the most fun I've had in online gameplay in a long time. Many of the people online were real tankers in their day so we used and were taught real tactics in our gameplay. Beautiful stuff. You can't beat that for the price of the initial investement. Not only was it a fun time, but I learned a thing or two about real world armor tactics and teamwork.

I'am totally aware of the "real" value of the game but it is still basically my one year games budget. And I stopped playing those stupid AAA titles for 40-50 buck a long time ago. Right now I only buy during sales plus I'am very picky when it comes to games these days.

Unfortunately I'am a fan of niche titles and they can be really expensive. But I'am not saying "no" definitely. Maybe someday smile

Well, you can play it for free for two weeks, if you send an email to Demo@SteelBeasts.com (and you'll get a personal tutor along with it, for some of the time).

We regularly reduce the price before releasing a new version, which can be another opportunity to save a little. Finally you can try and get a used copy through eBay. Even the original version 2.251 from 2006 is still eligible for a simple upgrade (at $25.-) - that may be another way to shave some costs. Of course, these items are rare on eBay, but it sounds like you're a very patient man, and they have that automatic alert thing.
